WAGMOR PETS: An LA Based Dog Rescue Organization

We are now rescuing about 100 dogs a month!

Wagmor Pets dog rescue is a rescue group from Los Angeles, CA that is committed to preventing cruelty and promoting kindness to animals. This month, we had a chance to sit down with Melissa Bacelar, the owner of Wagmor Pets, to learn more about their organization and specifically— how they helped Juju Brener find Pixie.

Tell us a little about your organization. When was it founded? And, what inspired your mission?

It's an interesting story because my original plan was very different. I opened in 2019 thinking I would simply offer small areas in my existing dog hotels to house dogs in need for other rescues. I thought that providing a safe space was a great way to give back. But once the pandemic hit and our actual hotel and daycare clients disappeared, we decided to go for it and do it all ourselves. We are now rescuing about 100 dogs a month!

Our mission is to reduce animal suffering and increase animal wellbeing. We aim to rehome them to responsible and caring homes where they can thrive and live happy lives, that they deserve.

How many pups do you have at the moment? Where do you rescue them from?

We normally have 40 to 50 dogs, in house, and about 100 more in foster homes. We rescue them from shelters all over rural California and sometimes even outside of the US, including Mexico, China and Thailand.

Now, tell us about Pixie, the Chi mix that Juju Brener and her family rescued from your organization. Where did you find her?

We have noticed that there is just an abundance of dogs in the Kern County area that need help, so we go out there on weekly basis, at this point, trying to help as many dogs as we can. Little Pixie was found with her 3 siblings outside of a Trailer Park. No one was paying attention to them or their mom so we took all of them in.

That's amazing! Where can people find your dogs that are available for adoption?

Our adult dogs are always available for meet and greets at The Wagmor, located at 11939 Ventura Blvd in Studio City. You can find us on Instagram at @wagmorpets, and see the list of our adoptable pets at www.wagmorpets.org.
