DOGUE issue 15 "La Vie En Rose" starring Mia, Moshiqa & Paris Hilton!

The New Generation of Dog Fashion by O.P

Dog fashion may have existed since we’ve first turned our dogs into pets. We've decorated them with fancy jewels and collars. We've made them matching sweaters and jackets. And, today, it's not uncommon to see a pup sporting a tee, sunglasses and hat. Modern dogs have their own rooms, closets and matching wardrobes. Their own photographers, agents and managers. At least, that’s true for our dog models at COVERDOGS.Dog fashion has always existed but it’s reached new heights during the pandemic. It offered us new ways to get creative and gave us new ways to express our dog-love and fashion-love, on the gram. It allowed us to connect with like-minded people, from different parts of the globe, and work together on exclusive collections. For some, it became a favorite hobby, and for others it became a full-time career. For many, dog fashion has become a new form of self-expression. Social media allowed us to experience life through the lens of our pets. "Dog" went from being a pet, to being a lifestyle. Matching with our pups had become a viral trend, at least on social media. But, where did it all start? Modern dog fashion took off in the early 2000s with Paris Hilton posing with her dressed-up pups for the paparazzi. The queen of social media took dog fashion to the next level. More recently, Hilton had collaborated with Moshiqa to design an exclusive pet collection, entitled "MetaPink".

The dog fashion market is growing rapidly due to the new, independent dog brands, and the existing fashion houses like Dior, Versace, and Prada who are adding designer pet collections to their shops. Today, dog fashion is already a multi-billion dollar industry and an exciting new career field for the Millenials. We’re talking dog photographers, artists and stylists. Dog fashion designers, and beauty experts. Dog managers and talent agents. In many ways, social media has launched a dog fashion revolution. It allowed us to turn our pet-love into careers, and our pups into stars. On Instagram, Coverdogs are taking over the fashion world, one post at a time. They’re strutting down the runways at Fashion Week. They're setting trends for famous brands. They get featured in magazines, and on Times Square in NYC. There’s no telling where dog fashion will go, but one thing is clear. Dog fashion is no longer a niche, but a wild animal of its own. Maybe it's because it's so darn cute, and maybe it's because dog fashion is a part of the "love market" and not just the dog market.
