Probate Matters? Most lawyers provide probate services for those who want them. But there is no law that says you have to have a lawyer. You choose. At the extremes, you can hire a lawyer to do the whole job, or you can do the whole job yourself without ever involving a lawyer at all. As a half way house, you can do it yourself but just ask a lawyer for advice from time to time on the bits you find trickier. The more traditional sort of lawyer might turn their nose up at this but we pride ourselves on being flexible and will tailor our services to your needs. So, how do you go about getting probate when somebody dies? You have to go to the Probate Registry and submit the original will (if there is one) and what they call the Oath, whether there is or there isn't a will. An Oath is simply a document that proves that you are who you say you are and in which you promise to carry out the duty of being the deceased's representative in accordance with the law. Taking out these grants of probate is something lawyers do all the time , and a good lawyer will happily guide you through the process. Once concluded you will receive an official certificate from the Probate Registry that says that you are now entitled to administer the affairs of the deceased. You then have to gather in all the deceased's monies, make sure it's all properly accounted for and then make sure it gets to the people who are entitled to it, either under the will or under the rules of intestacy, as the case may be. We can help as little or as much as you would like. Call your local office for further advice (details opposite) if you are in need of any assistance. Wilsons Solicitors

calories and keep your energy flowing! We know the basics, like 5-a-day and 8-10 glasses of water daily. Instead of adding to your diet, why not subtract a little? Did you know that a can of pop contains roughly ten teaspoons of sugar? Cut down your intake! Fizzy drinks may be great to give you a surge of strength, but it will burn fast and leave you perhaps even worse than before. Substitute for a banana and orange juice instead. Yorkshire Crust is a new addition to Tinshill Road in Cookridge. Craig McDonnell and his wife Laura took over from the previous owners, Urban Deli, just 7 weeks ago and have already made an impact and some considerable changes. More than just a deli, by daytime Yorkshire Crust offers good quality, reputable local and Yorkshire products as well as home-made cakes and savouries. But in addition, they also provide cookery and baking classes, restaurant evenings and outside catering, as well as freshly made-to-order take home meals.
Yorkshire Crust This may all seem like a lot to take on board, especially when you include a young baby into the mix, but Craig is familiar with hard work. With 14 years’ experience as a chef, Craig has previously worked in award winning gastro pubs and fine restaurants and his last role was as chef at well respected pub ‘The Fleece’ in Addingham. This is the couple’s first venture on their own though, with chef Craig at work in the deli whilst wife Laura runs marketing and promotion from home in between looking after their first child.
Husband and wife team, Craig and Laura McDonnell
At the deli, Craig has an early start stocking up the range of cheeses and meats, preserves and snacks and baking the fresh bread daily. This includes a sun dried tomato bloomer and gluten free bread and can be pre-ordered to avoid disappointment. Other popular signature recipes include Craig’s chicken liver pate, pork and chorizo sausage rolls and Sue’s gluten free chocolate orange cake. Yorkshire Crust are looking at offering new gluten free products and running a gluten free evening in the near future, following the success of their first restaurant evening,

which celebrated Burn’s Night. They currently run 1 – 2 restaurant evenings per month but are looking to increase this to 1 every week. Places are limited, however, and booking is recommended. Cookery lessons with Yorkshire Crust can be tailored to suit individual needs, or follow set lesson plans and are generally held at the client’s home. The concept is a fairly flexible one and can include an evening’s cookery with friends or wine nights, offering guidance on the correct wines with various foods. They will also be running regular cupcake making classes at the deli, running from 6 pm – 8 pm and starting in March. Included in the lesson is afternoon tea and the opportunity to make and take home your own cupcake creations. With so much going on and such dedication, it’s hard not to envisage a rosy future for the Yorkshire Crust. Plans include local farmers’ markets and eventually extending the dining area towards the back of the property so that customers can enjoy the view over to nearby Leeds and Bradford Airport. Further parking is already available to the rear of the premises. A new website will be up and running in a couple of weeks at www.yorkshirecrust.com and, in the meantime, they can also be found on Facebook and Twitter @Yorkshirecrust.

Pan Fried Prawns with a White Wine & Butter Sauce In a large frying pan melt the butter and oil over a medium heat. Add the prawns and stir well. Stir fry until the prawns start to turn pink (about 3-4 minutes) Add the spring onion and chilli and stir fry for another minute, add the white wine and cook until the sauce is simmered down. Meanwhile, slice the French bread to around 1 inch before toasting lightly. Arrange the toasted croutons on your serving plate before scattering the prawns and sauce over the top. Season with salt and pepper, to taste, and serve immediately.

Lishman’s Sausage & Chroizo Casserole with Sauté Potatoes Heat the oil in a large, deep pan. Cut the sausages into chunky slices and brown evenly over a medium heat. Using a slotted spoon, transfer them to a plate whilst you brown your chopped chorizo along with finely chopped onion. Add the carrot, red pepper and rosemary sprigs and cook gently for a minute. Return the sausages to the casserole, add the wine and season lightly. Bring it to a gentle simmer before putting a lid on the casserole, turn down the heat to low and simmer gently for 30 minutes. We were invited to try the dough ball bites to start with. I’ve had their equivalent elsewhere, but these are no copycat imposters. Now we both love garlic, usually you just dip these things, which we did here, but on my first bite my chin was swimming in warm garlic buttery heaven that burst forth from these deceptive morsels, a divine facepack! To be honest we could have eaten 20 each. A drink later and our burgers arrived beautifully laid on wooden boards, nestled next to gem leaf lettuce and coleslaw canopies and buckets of fries, and I really would recommend the sweet potato ones, delicious! We both ploughed through our well stacked burgers oozing with sauce, salad and cheese and not one crumb was left! Address 62 Bar & Kitchen 62 Town Street Horsforth LS18 4AP Bookings: 0113 239 0624
I’m afraid we were both so stuffed that we only glanced at the desert menu, that sticky waffle pudding and cookie dough cheese cake will, I’m afraid, have to wait until our next visit which will definitely be soon! We both left happy as Larry and without breaking the bank! So if you like music, a good atmosphere and great food and a very good price, then this is a very highly recommended choice for American Style Dining!
bar Sixty Too A cold Thursday night saw us take our first visit to Horsforth’s latest addition to the Bar and Restaurant scene – the relaunched Sixty Too. At first glance as we entered it looked like a traditional Yorkshire Pub, but how wrong you can be! No sooner had my partner and I entered the door, we were greeted by a trendy musically themed interior. Large and spacious with plenty of seating, Sixty Too offers a very warm welcome. Walls adorned with vintage guitars, records and familiar faces; pictures of Dave Grohl, Chris Martin and Led Zeppelin hang around tables. Sixty Too is a trendy American Diner and its menu is straight to the point, burgers, pizzas and lots of sticky, messy and extremely mouth-watering bits and bobs! But unlike most well-known chains in this style of cuisine, everything looks fresh, well portioned and extremely reasonably priced. My partner and I had just finished work for the day and fancied something hearty, the waiter was very helpful and knew the menu well, recommending the Tennessee Bourbon Burger and Southern Fried Chicken Strip, well, ‘when in Rome’ it is a US diner!

The proposed new clubhouse at HCC
HORSFORTH CRICKET CLUB CHARITY DINNER Last month saw a charity sportsman’s dinner held at the Hilton Hotel, Leeds to raise funds to build a new clubhouse at Horsforth Cricket Club. Guests of honour included Yorkshire County Cricket Club’s captain Andrew Gale, and the club’s coach Jason Gillespie along with ex-footballer, now manager, Paul Jewell, who played for Bradford City for 10 years and ex-footballer John Hendry. The development funds are to build a much needed new clubhouse and to support Horsforth’s
Junior section. The evening was organised by Ian Stephens, treasurer at the club, who reported it to be a fantastic success, seeing a considerable turn out and memorabilia auctioned off to raise further funds. The memorabilia included a shirt signed by the Great Britain Rugby squad, a Manchester City Football Club shirt signed by the team, a signed pair of Joe Hart’s boxing gloves and a pair of James Milner’s signed boots which were all auctioned off. A proportion of the funds raised will also be donated to The James Milner Foundation charity. Horsforth Cricket Club is believed to have started around 1847 and previous clubhouses included the nearby Old Ball pub, before their own pavilion was developed in the 1970s. In 2011 Horsforth received

planning permission for a brand new pavilion to be built at the playing fields end of the ground. The old clubhouse is outdated and no longer adequate and plans for the new clubhouse offer better facilities such as improved changing areas. Spring Comes Early at Britannia Leeds Bradford The Britannia Hotel on Leeds Road, Adel, has traditionally held its wedding fairs in March and October. This year they decided to get a little ahead of the One of the many local exhibitors pack by bringing at Britannia in January – Trevor their spring event Backhouse, master patissier at Patisserie Viennoise in Otley. forward to Sunday 27 January – a ploy that would have been frustrated by the weather had the Saturday’s heavy snowfall not disappeared as quickly as it had arrived.

The conference and events staff at Britannia now run the fair themselves. That is mutually beneficial – lower overheads for the exhibitors and the hotel has the opportunity of heavily promoting itself as a venue for the reception. The January event was pretty much at capacity with eighteen exhibitors, the majority of them quite local. Plus, of course, the hotel itself. Britannia’s second event this year is staying put and is on 20 October.

Finance Matters In this column Editor Chris Barnham investigates financial issues that might affect resident in the area. A university education is expensive. Very expensive. And it seems very unlikely that it will become any cheaper in the future. For the majority of young people looking to continue their education finance is a major concern – take into account university fees, buying books, technology and study equipment. Then, add in; rent, food, clothes, socialising and living expenses and it’s not the kind of obligation to take on lightly.

For parents and grandparents with the resources they may decide that this is an area where they want to help, because in most cases the long term value of a good education exceeds the short term costs. For those committed to ensuring their children take the university route this usually this means planning ahead, making savings over time or securing funding within trusts dedicated to this purpose. How flexible this should be depends on each case and individual attitudes. What timescale? Is tax efficiency (including Inheritance Tax) important? Is it wise to give an 18yr old a large sum of money directly? The questions need careful consideration and discussion, ideally with a trusted professional advisor who can put suitable plans in place. As with all financial matters, it’s best to get advice at the earliest opportunity. A plan made sooner rather than later can provide maximum benefit without causing too much day to day impact on current finances.

Rawdon Fun Day Auction Raises £8000 for Three Charities Rawdon Fun Day held their annual auction and charity raffle on 26 January at Yarnbury Rugby Club. A similar event last year had made all the difference to this year’s total pot. Torrential rain in the summer had turned the fun day proper into a muddy swamp even before the vehicles and visitors arrived. Michael Warrior, chairman of the fundraising committee, told Covered that the takings from last year’s fun day had been Rawdon Fun Day committee chairman Michael Warrior with just a few of the star lots – and cheques down by half. But last year’s auction and raffle for the £13,000 raised last year. meant that, on the evening, a total of £13,000 was to be split between Tommy’s and Yorkshire Air as darts player Martin “The Assassin” Atkins Ambulance. had again got fellow competitors in the BDO’s This year’s auction and raffle were also a great World Professional Darts Championship to sign a success, raising a few pounds short of £8000. board. Panto Time Again at Cookridge AmDram Cookridge Amateur Dramatic Society has been treading the boards for 55 years. Now with a steady twenty members, aged 15 upward, they rehearse two nights a week and some Sunday afternoons. Their aim is to show one play every November, a panto during the February halfterm and another play each April or May. The twenty members are sometimes supported or reinforced by local toddlers, as and when. Their current production, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, is a good example of that – youngsters have been called in to portray the little people.
Anyone wishing to audition for this or any other production, be part of the production team or assist or sponsor in any way should contact Susan Plume on 0113 2679240. Rehearsals and performances are at Cookridge Village Hall.
Their next production is Table Manners by Alan Aykbourn, the first in his 1973 The Norman Conquests trilogy and widely acclaimed as the funniest. It is set to run from 25 to 27 April.
This half-term’s panto runs from Wednesday 20 to Friday 22 February at 7.30pm and on Saturdays 16 and 23 at 2.30pm. Tickets on the door or from Jackie Richardson on 0113 2390800.
Rehearsals for Snow White; “Mirror, mirror standing tall” An unimpressed King Cyclone (Paul Sanderson) looks on while Queen Icestorm (Susan Plume) poses the question.

Le Tour 2014 in Yorkshire Detailed routes for the first two (Yorkshire) stages of the 2014 Tour de France were announced at press conferences on 17 January. First at the British Embassy in Paris and then that evening at Leeds Town Hall. Stage One - Leeds to Harrogate via Harewood, Otley and Ilkley. Stage Two - York to Sheffield. Keith Wakefield, Leader of Leeds City Council, welcomed maybe 200 journos, cameramen and photographers. Then Tour Director Christian Prudhomme and Chief Executive of Welcome to Yorkshire Gary Verity sang the praises of both the Tour and the county. Stage Three - Cambridge to London. Only the closing route through London was announced, so Transport for London Planning Director Ben Plowden had little to add. With around 120 kilometres of cycling yet to be found, between two points otherwise 60 kilometres apart, there must be plenty of towns competing for the spoils. Cambridge City Council told Covered that an announcement would not be made before October
Four main speakers at the conference – Keith Wakefield (City of Leeds), Gary Verity (Yorkshire), Ben Plowden (London) and Christian Prudhomme (the Tour).
– suggesting that it may well have been Yorkshire’s ability to make detailed proposals that tilted the scales in England’s favour. Talk has already started about the possibilities of an étape (stage) for the public and maybe an annual pro-am-charity event afterwards. Though widely supported, Welcome to Yorkshire has received no firm proposals as yet, nor has any to put to the Tour or county authorities. Watch this space.

Spring is on the way!
The days are starting to lengthen, and with the occasional burst of sunshine, spring bulbs are appearing everywhere – starting with snowdrops, crocus, dwarf iris and early daffodils. On warm moist days it will be worth starting your protection against slugs and snails, who will love to munch on your early flowers.
Sweet peas may be sown now, pinching out the tops after 6 leaves to make them bush out, and then hardening them off before planting out after the last frosts. Hardy annuals which provide colour in the summer may be started now, followed by half hardy annuals as the month progresses.
Broad beans are very hardy and may be started indoors for planting out later. Apply a dressing of lime to the area where brassica are to be planted, as this will reduce the risk of club root. Crop rotation is important when growing vegetables, use a three year system to reduce the incidence of soil dwelling pests and diseases. Many vegetables may be grown If the ground is not frozen or water logged, continue in reasonable containers, florist buckets etc, which to purchase and plant bare root roses, fruit bushes and means everyone can enjoy fresh produce even any other perennial plants and shrubs for a colourful without a patch of ground in a garden. summer display. Fashionable furnishings; bronze, brass and wood
Why not sport a sophisticated set of wooden furnishings? Modern, painted coffee tables and dining furniture can’t beat the classic look of antique mahogany and pine. Wood is back in fashion, bringing a touch of nature and hominess to your rooms. Vintage and antique pieces of wooden furnishing have personality and uniqueness, but if that’s not you, spruce up your front room with some fashionable brass ornaments and furnishings. They’ll create a sleek, metallic and mature look. Get rid of any tacky plastic and ‘modern’ metal furnishings – this is the year to add rustic style to your home!

Feel the cosiness
We feel with our eyes as well as our limbs – this year, cool, pastel colours for thick carpets combine both our senses to help truly experience comfort. Pale greys, soft pinks and clean creams are some of the few trending carpet colours – avoid noisy patterns and dyes, which scream tacky! Nothing makes you feel at home more than a plush carpet complimented by calming hues.

Cookridge School Spans The Ages Cookridge Primary School recently set up a choir with a difference. Not happy with just a conventional children’s voice choir they have also been joined by older members of the local community, including members of OPAL (Older People`s Action in the Locality) The Cookridge Intergenerational Choir began singing together last October and have already performed locally on three occasions. “Being a Beacon ‘Sing Up’ school there was no doubt we would have a choir”, explained Deborah Fletcher, Cookridge Primary`s Music Co-ordinator, “but we were also keen to reach out into our local community and felt this was the perfect opportunity for older residents to join us in school on a regular basis.” The choir meets twice a week during term time and currently has an age range of 7 to 92 years! If you would be interested in joining in (regardless of your singing ability!) Mrs Fletcher would love to hear from you, just contact her through the school on 0113 3862500.

Youth Councillor for htc John Gledhill, on placement from Leeds Trinity University spoke to Horsforth Town Council recently about their proposal to appoint a Youth Councillor. When I was a youth the most frustrating thing was never being listened to. My friends and I were constantly told to ‘clear off’ wherever we went; in spite of the fact that we were doing nothing wrong, simply hanging out and talking. So, when Covered heard Horsforth Town Council (HTC) was thinking of appointing a youth councillor, it told me to ‘be off’ and talk to Chairman of the Environment and Community Committee, Martin Hughes. Martin Hughes admits that when it comes to how they see youth, ‘one key view from adults is that of anti-social behaviour’. I must confess that now – in my thirties – if I see a group of teenagers near my house I want them to leave as I fear they may damage my property. I have begun to realise that this is why those people told me to clear off and why today’s teenagers that I now want to clear off, will likewise when they are grown-up, be telling others the same thing. It is quite the conundrum. However, HTC appears to be trying to find a solution in the form of a youth

councillor. When asked if the council had previously attempted to connect with youth, Hughes acknowledges ‘I don’t really think it has’. Now, all this could be about to change as there is talk of a youth council! When asked Martin stated ‘it [HTC] does not need one, but could appoint one. But before all this we have to find someone who is prepared to stand and win an election, I have no doubt that any of the 3 main parties would support a young person wishing to stand for election – we are short enough of candidates as it is. The trick is finding that person’. Could this be a challenge he is laying down? Particularly, as he is keen to point out how he regards young people views of HTC: ‘I think they think that what we do in council is very boring! Therefore, I am really not thinking there will be much interest’. There you have it - so to all the young people: you know how curious Covered is and we want to know: Is Martin Hughes right? Do you find the possibility of a youth council where you have your say ‘boring’, or are you tired of being told to ‘clear off’ and you’re ready to have your say? It remains to be seen. But in Martin Hughes, there does appear to be at least one adult who is ready to listen.

Barry anderson speaks Municipal Gold Provision in Leeds A recent proposal to close 2 municipal golf courses in Leeds has been overturned, at least in the short term. I was very concerned about these proposals as the cost of private courses is not within everyone’s reach. I had a number of comments from residents following an article on my website, all worried about the closures. Whilst everyone recognises that the taxpayers of Leeds cannot continue to subsidise these courses at current levels, in my view, the decision to close was a “knee jerk reaction”, without any thought being given to how usage might be increased, or whether use of the facilities could be widened to include other community based projects. Council officers argued that users could access private facilities nearby, at similar cost. My own research suggests that they could end up paying double if the municipal facilities were lost to them. So I am pleased that the Council has thought again and offered a last minute reprieve, albeit only for one year. It is now up to the residents of Leeds to show their backing for these valuable amenities, through increased patronage.

Electrification of the Harrogate Line There is a campaign currently ongoing within various pressure groups for electrification of the Harrogate line which will mean an increased frequency of service and more modern rolling stock on that line. This could also help the move towards providing a station for Leeds Bradford Airport which in my view is sadly lacking and we are missing many opportunities by not having a direct rail link to the airport. There is also a campaign in some quarters to increase the number of stations or halts. These campaigns cut across two Councils, Leeds in West Yorkshire and Harrogate in North Yorkshire. High Speed Rail Link to Leeds You will have read in the Press that an announcement has finally been made about Leeds being part of the proposed High Speed Rail Link from London. Do you think that this proposal will provide local residents with the transport links we desire and provide better links for business purposes and hence increasing job opportunities in the area? Let me know your views. Cllr. Barry Anderson Adel & Wharfedale Ward www.barryanderson.yourcllr.com Twitter @barryanderson19

Are We Losing Our Community Spirit? The gold coloured car pictured just right of centre (see photo on right) had broken down on Horsforth Train Station Bridge. Around 20 minutes earlier on a Wednesday afternoon. The driver had apparently gone for help. Traffic was backed up several hundred feet along Station Road, Tinshill Road and Tinshill Lane, the lane being the worst because of the chicane caused by cars parked on both sides of the road. Fortunately it wasn’t the rush hour and no very large or emergency vehicles were involved. It was only at that point that two unrelated pedestrians decided to call the police - having first wondered why it was taking them so long and then wondering if anyone had. One was the photographer and the other a final year journalism student from Leeds Trinity University. Calling 101 seemed to work fine – yes, it was indeed the first call. They were there within minutes. You have to ask. Why wasn’t help forthcoming at the time, and why did 20 minutes elapse before anyone contacted the emergency services? The driver had done his bit – breakdown rescue arrived at the same time as the police. Any question of how much worse it might have got is therefore hypothetical, but what if?
The police found a more immediate solution than the breakdown crew.
Covered, in almost two years now, has featured countless individuals, groups and events driven by community spirit and looks forward to reporting many more. But are we beginning to lose it? Have any readers similar tales to tell or, more importantly, any examples of where the opposite happened?

More Friends Needed at Walkin’ Back To Horsforth Cemetery Happiness Ten years ago a small group of local volunteers got together to see what they could do to make Horsforth Cemetery a more attractive place for visitors. Now Brian and John Corson, left, have been a dozen strong, with the group for three years, having bumped into them when attending a around eight grave. Most recent recruit is members meet Karenfamily Marshall (centre). Next to Karen, between 10am and with the hat, is keenest member Seamus Farrelly - there every day! noon on the first Saturday of each month. Weeding, tidying, clearing leaves and planting bulbs are among their never ending tasks; “The more we do, the less Leeds City Council seems to be. It’s a never ending task” secretary Ann B (as she prefers to be known) told Covered following our visit on an unseasonably bright February morning. “We are always looking for new members, particularly younger ones – maybe from local schools or colleges. We are also always grateful for donations of equipment and supplies. Anyone wishing to lend a hand can just turn up on the day. Anyone with any enquiries or wishing to offer help and support can contact Anne B on 07960 221417.

Everything costs money these days - except Covered! Walk round any West Yorkshire town and I’ll bet you any money that there are shops boarded up; business’s closed down. It’s quite a depressing sight to see. What’s even more depressing is the thought that living in a community is going the same way. After all, if you know all your neighbours these days, you must be one of the rare few. Not like when you were a kid and you knew the whole street. But can that special sense of community be recaptured? Local theatre is one place where a sense of unity still exists. Take Carpetbaggers’ new production Walkin’ Back to Happiness – it seems like it addresses some of the problems described above. It features Helen who is 18 and facing the decisions and dilemmas that come with young adulthood; clearly a time of confusion and uncertainty regarding identity. Her boyfriend is called up for duty in Afghanistan – so there is something missing in her life. What’s more, her mother has a secret, her auntie is acting out of character, and a strange man is following her – secrets and strangers, sounds like she doesn’t know the people around her anymore. There is also a mixture of characters trying to save Dougie's Diner from being taken over by the clutches of a modern day food chain with golden arches. So the little guy on the street is trying to save something important from closing down, eh? I’m just saying that Steven Clark’s new script contains issues similar to problems in society at the moment. When you think that the actors are local people, Carpetbagger’s is non-profit, and the show features tunes such as ‘I Will Survive’, then in getting together and sharing this, perhaps community is most definitely alive and well.

OOOPS! ANOTHER CUSTOMER FOR CHIPSAWAY! Every minute someone somewhere becomes another potential customer for ‘on-the-spot’ automotive paint repair specialist ChipsAway. Their local specialist, Peter Howarth, covers North Leeds and surrounding areas. Whether it’s a stone thrown up from the road, a key scraping against your car door, or an out of control shopping trolley clipping your paintwork - chips, bumps and minor scuffs are part and parcel of being a car owner. Although they may look innocuous, minor chips and scuffs can cause long-term problems that may lead to a more expensive repair being required. Water is not a friend of metal and any chips in paintwork leave the car body vulnerable to rust which may lead to a more extensive (and expensive) repair. Recent research has confirmed that the majority of the 34 million cars in the UK are in need of attention to their paintwork and that most drivers would love to find a quick, cost-effective way of repairing minor paintwork damage. After all, nobody wants the expense and inconvenience of booking their car into a body shop if it isn’t necessary. This is exactly where Peter and ChipsAway can help. Using their unique system, ChipsAway can offer a faster, more convenient way of repairing minor damage to automotive paintwork – and at a radically reduced cost – up to 50% less than a body shop! Car owners no longer need to book vehicles into a body shop for days at a time to simply to remove a small scratch or chip. Peter operates from a fully

Who are NTX Taekwondo Schools? NTX Taekwondo Schools are a professional association whose highly skilled and dedicated Instructors take pride in their quality coaching and ability to help young people reach black belt and beyond. January 2007 marked the opening of their first Leeds branch. The proprietor, Susan Khafagy, has since then trained many new instructors, while Senior Instructors have received training from across the globe. NTX Schools has appeared on both National Television and radio; they are continuously expanding across many areas, including Horsforth, Selby and Garforth. HORSFORTH NEWLAITHES SCHOOL QUALIFY FOR ATHLETICS FINALS
Mental and physical benefits are provided through the practice of Taekwondo, including fitness, improved confidence, discipline and gaining respect for others. Additionally, it offers a wonderful opportunity for your family to bond. Horsforth and Roundhay's Black Belt Instructor Hardeep Bhambra trains often with her sons. "Families who kick together stick together," she says, "We love training together!"
Last November, 100 Primary Schools entered the Leeds Primary School Sports Hall Athletics Challenge. Horsforth Newlaithes battled through heats at Horsforth School to become North West Leeds Champions, and successfully qualify for the Leeds Semi Finals which were held at Wetherby High School in February 2013. A large squad of 30 aspiring young athletes represented Newlaithes in the semi finals - competing against Chapel Allerton, Kippax Ashtree, Woodlesford and Lower Wortley. With such strong competition, great credit must go to Newlaithes who came a very close second scoring 112 points to Chapel Allerton School’s 117.
