IN THE PAST YEAR WE’VE ALL LEARNED HOW TO RE-INVENT, PIVOT, LIBERATE AND BALANCE OUR MIND AND BODY.

BUT WHAT DOES THAT MEAN FOR YOUR FAMILY AND BUSINESS LIFE FOR 2021? HOW HAS IT CHANGED YOUR MIND BODY BALANCE?

In 2020, we were all suddenly thrown into chaos and required to work out new strategies involving life skills and mindset challenges if we were to keep our lives and our businesses afl oat.

Week one of lockdown, the pivot for me was an exciting new world of Fitness and Wellness challenges, as the whole world entered turmoil and the fi tness industry was basically shut down. Luckily I had three decades of teaching skills and a fabulous husband to connect me to the world of ‘Live Streaming’. With this knowledge, I knew that mind, body and balance was the utmost importance to maintaining positivity in life.

My living room became a studio for live streaming, with me on screen and my husband, Didier, actioning the technical side of things. My passion did not wane and clients immediately embraced this too. My unique fusions of yoga, pilates, barre, restorative, dance and meditation continued with the same sense of joy and community. I streamed classes into my clients’ living rooms, playrooms or wherever there was space for a screen, mat, ChiBall, hand-weights and bands. Each individual continued their Body and Balance classes instead of needing to leave the house. This became, and still is, so important for continued fi tness, but also for mental health.

My classes and courses benefi t Mind Body Balance and continue to keep the positive mindset because of the following:

Regular exercise releases endorphins known as ‘the happy hormones’ which decreases feelings of depression and anxiety. This became prevalent for many over this past year and being able to guide people to balance Mind and Body not only helps people be fi tter and stronger, but also happy. My mantra – be fi tter, stronger, happier and live longer.

Weight management through a balance of body and mind. My ten principles, developed over years of teaching, covers both physical exercise, including cardio, strength and stretch for a start, but also relaxation and meditation with positive intentions as a complete mind, body and balanced workout.

Focus and Mental alertness through the principles of focus, breath, alignment and spinal mobilisation.

Balance of internal organs through spine twists - liver to right, spleen to left - with breath to enhance focus and transform the sympathetic nervous system to parasympathetic. This calms the nervous system, lowers blood pressure, the heart rate and enhances oxygenated blood fl ow throughout your system. Your self-esteem gets a boost as you begin to look and feel better. This will lift your energy and positive vibrations around you, which in turn makes you feel mentally and physically balanced.

Enhances your fl exibility. Fitness, wellness, fl exibility and strength are all keys to a happier you and helping you be physically and mentally free of fear and illness.

Muscle and mind increases strength. This enables you to do everyday tasks with ease, keeping joints and bones strong as we age and frees the mind to focus on the positive.

Balance and focus improvement. In all my classes, we practice left/right brain balance with breath.

Perfect Posture is gained through awareness of spinal alignment, focus, breath, core engagement, stretch and strength. This is all part of my ten principles.

This in turn enhances focus and productivity, particularly if the spine is stressed from desk work, stress, incorrect breathing and poor core strength.
