What do you do outside the club? I just completed my Bachelor’s Degree in Primary Education and play Softball, which I’ve been playing since I was fi ve years old.

How long have you been working at Harbord Diggers? Almost 4 years.

What’s your Beaches’ happy place and why? It’s all things in Freshwater to Manly. I enjoy the coastal walks, gym, bars and restaurants. There’s so much variety—I wouldn’t live anywhere else.

What does the Beaches’ vibe mean to you? It means time moves just a little bit slower. Activities are done at a leisurely pace, and I love the boardwalk at Curly. You can always strike up a friendly conversation with strangers. Between the calming smell of the sea, the weather and endless activities, I fi nd that this vibe right for me.

What strengths and values do you bring to the Diggers? I bring a number of strengths to the Diggers. These include the simple ones like displaying kindness to all patrons and other staff that come into the Diggers. I’m also considerate, able to communicate well, multi-task, and manage customer relations quite highly as well. I believe all these strengths have been developed through my life experiences – at work and in my sporting and professional life.

What’s your go-to spot when you are showing out-of-towners the Beaches? The coastal drive from Dee Why to Manly. I love seeing visitors’ reactions when they see our beautiful beaches and the many great bars and restaurants we have here.

How long have you been working at Harbord Diggers? I have been working at Harbord Diggers for two years.

What’s your Beaches’ happy place and why? I have many favourite places on the Northern Beaches. One of my favourites would be Freshwater. I love the beach, the sushi and the ocean promenade all which Freshie has to offer.

What does the Beaches’ Vibe mean to you? A hot sunny day out at the beach with family and friends; a day fi lled with fun and games including snorkelling, beach cricket, surfi ng and eating the hot chips before the seagulls get to them.

What strengths and values do you bring to the Diggers? I am proud of my dedication, commitment and reliability. I enjoy hard work and challenges, and I do my best in any task or environment. I am passionate about my job and my career path within it. As a team member, I am excited to create positive culture at Diggers and build strong connections with all staff members and customers.

What’s your go-to spot when you are showing out-of-towners the Beaches? To get the real feel of living on a beach, I would take them to Palm Beach and walk them up to the Lighthouse. It’s a memorable experience that always draw people back to this special place.

PAMELA HANSEN

Honorary Secretary Harbord RSL Sub-Branch & Secretary of Harbord Diggers Garden Club

How long have you been a part of the Harbord Diggers community? I have been an active member of the Diggers for 25 years.

What’s your Beaches' happy place and why? Going down to the Curl Curl boardwalk, sitting on the rocks near the surf club and watching the waves. It's very calming.

What does the Beaches’ vibe mean to you? It’s a lifestyle, a close-knit community where everyone knows each other and makes you feel like you are part of something bigger.

What strengths and values do you bring to the Diggers? I support local veterans and their families as well as help oversee the running of the Harbord Diggers Garden Club. The club is supported by Harbord Diggers and Mounties Group for over 30 years, and has been building friendships through gardening for 15 years. I help organise community events like the ANZAC Day commemoration service, which I’ve been part of for 15 years now. I also assist with providing support for past and present serving veterans, as well as their families.

What’s your go-to spot when you are showing out-of-towners the Beaches? Go for a drive up to the peninsula with some iconic pit stops along the way. We always come back to Harbord Diggers, to our beautiful ocean terrace, for a drink, meal, and a laugh. •
