What People Mean to Me

by Ruby Vickery

In life, we meet and are surrounded by people. From family to friends, to team sports and social gatherings, people are everything.

Here’s why I think that people are the most important thing in life. My besties at school

Have you ever had that feeling after you meet a new person, when they make you laugh just a little bit or sometimes a lot, and then after a while, you become besties!

When you meet new people, it expands your social life. You create new relationships and broaden your knowledge about the world—different cultures, different interests and personalities of the people around you. The best thing about it is this can happen anywhere!

Did you know there are 7.753 billion people in the world?

With every new generation, our parents, grandparents and elders in the community pass down their knowledge to enrich us about who we are and where we come from.

This knowledge of People allows us to open our eyes and ears, peer into different ideas to solve problems, create opportunities and discover interesting cool stuff. For exampe, how to build rockets to fl y to the moon, create deep water submarines that can uncover exotic sea life deep under our oceans, or maybe the coaches of our sports teams. These people have tremendous knowledge that can allow you to train to maybe one day win a gold medal at the Olympics.

People are also different. That’s what makes the world interesting. What would the world be like if we dressed, talked and acted the same? Pretty boring right!

Some people are very important and become leaders in their community, making lots of decisions. Some of these people are Prime Ministers, Premiers and Principals. However, they’re not the only people who can spread a message. In a free country like Australia, we all have a voice and can speak our minds across platforms such as social media.

I have lots of people in my life. My parents—Mum and Dad, my sisters Scarlet and Ivy. My Aunty Mimi and my Nana, my cousins and their parents— Uncle Adam and Aunty Anne-Marie. Plus loads of sports and other old friends. But my newest friends are what I want to talk about. You see, one year ago, I switched schools to Manly Vale Public School. It was a little scary at fi rst but soon I had a huge new bunch of new friends.

I love my new school because it turned boring into heaps of fun. The teachers are amazing. Our Principal, Mrs Lee, is strong, kind and fun. And my friends and I get up to heaps of great stuff.

Soccer at lunchtime is one of my favourite things. In this game, my friends and I—both girls and boys—dribble the ball, kick it, and score goals in our soccer games. It’s a bundle of laughs, and we even trade our snacks and joke around.

These people are some of my favourite people. We’re there for each other and have fun every day.

People are just cool. Life has no limits so this Spring, my motto is: “Just go for it”. •
