Flourishing in Year 5
Rather than counting down the clock towards the end of Primary School, for the boys at St Augustine’s College Years 5 and 6 are an exciting opportunity to immerse themselves in a creative and challenging learning space.
FREEDOM AND FOCUS

St Augustine’s College’s educational ethos is based on the Augustinian values of Truth, Love and Community, where students are both cared for and challenged.
Guided by exceptional teachers, students are engaged in a rich program that fosters critical thinking, builds curiosity and establishes a place where all boys can enjoy learning.
Each student is supported in achieving his personal aspirations, with teachers engaging every individual in the way he learns best. This enables boys to identify their unique talents and succeed beyond their own expectations. Developing these talents within a culture of high expectation and care gives young men the freedom and focus to achieve in their chosen field.
ENGAGING EARLY
Primary School education at St Augustine’s College is inspiring and dynamic, intentionally preparing students for secondary school by adapting the availability of expert teachers and purpose-built spaces to younger learners.
In addition to the mainstream educational curriculum, Years 5 and 6 students do not have to wait until high school to access specialised learning programs in:
• Science
• Creative and Performing Arts
• Languages
• Drama
• PDHPE
• Music
• Computer Coding
• STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics)
• Sport and Co-curricular
• Athletic Development for physical literacy, transitioning students from free play and junior sports to the structured training expected at higher levels
• Library and research
IGNITING PASSION
St Augustine’s College also offers enrichment programs across music, mathematics, and writing. Termed IGNITE, these programs cater for boys who exhibit higher order thinking skills and require an extension of the current curriculum to keep them engaged.
IGNITE students think laterally and critically and need the opportunity to express this in a variety of forums. IGNITE allows a student to develop skills at a different level to his cohort, working at his instructional level and beyond.
A DIFFERENT EXPERIENCE
The College offers families the opportunity for their sons to enter Stage 4 of Primary School experiencing:
• A tailored environment with collaborative working spaces built to enable curiosity in boys, specialised music and drama rooms and sophisticated science laboratories.
• A team of expert teachers, skilled at engaging boys in the classroom, to guide students in becoming successful and confident learners. College staff constantly strive to improve their craft and are lifelong learners themselves.
• The opportunity to become part of the Augustinian community during a boy’s formative educational years.
• A proactive Augustinian Wellbeing in Education (AWE) program that uses the PERMA framework to build positive emotion, engagement, relationships, meaning and accomplishment in students.
• A designated and deliberate transition program from Year 6 to high school, where the final years of Primary are a productive learning period that prepares students for the intensity and rigour of secondary school.
When Primary School boys begin their education at St Augustine’s College, they join a challenging environment that nurtures young men of heart.
