Coweta County - Did You Know?

Every month, there are many new employees moving into Coweta County. Recently, I had the pleasure of working with the Newnan-Coweta Chamber of Commerce and taking some of the new hires for a “Windshield Tour” of Coweta County. We took them to see many different areas and sites around the county.
One of the handouts provided to the new residents was a Coweta County “fun fact” sheet provided by the Chamber of Commerce. I knew many of the facts but there were several I did not so I thought I would share:
• Coweta County covers 441 square miles with nearly 150,000 residents. The number of residents has nearly tripled since 1990 and will reach 163,00 in the next five years.
• The average Coweta household earns $79,795 per year, compared to the state average of $65,030 and a national average of $70,784. The median income for married households in Coweta County is $105,846. The unemployment rate in Coweta rests at 2.5% compared with the national rate of 3.7%. Coweta’s population is relatively young, though approaching middle-aged, with a median age of 39.
• The largest employers in Coweta County are Amazon.com Services, Cargill Meat Solutions, Hello Fresh, Piedmont Newnan Hospital, Yamaha Motor Manufacturing, and the Coweta County School System. Others include large companies and organizations such as City of Hope, formerly Southeast Cancer Treatment Centers of America, Georgia Power, Newnan Utilities, Kason Industries, and Bonnell.
• With 23 international companies making their home here, Coweta County is quickly becoming a hub for global industry. Countries represented in Coweta include: Japan, Germany, Sweden, Switzerland, England, Netherlands, France, Taiwan, Ireland, Norway, Canada, Austria, China, Israel and Italy.
Speaking of international, I also attended the NewnanCoweta Board of Realtors monthly meeting in May at the Central Education Center, in Newnan, where Sarah Jacobs, President of the Coweta County Development Authority, spoke. Sarah discussed FREYR, a global lithion-ion battery manufacturer. FREYR plans to invest $2.57 billion in Coweta County and add 723 jobs. Wow!
New Businesses = New Job Opportunities
Mark Whitlock, CEO of the Central Education Center in Newnan, Georgia’s first college and career academy, also spoke. He shared how the Central Education Center is preparing their students for high-paying jobs immediately out of high school as well as the many programs CEC offers. More and more young people are learning skills and a trade, working right out of high school and forgoing the typical college experience. Many of the alumni of the Central Education Center were being placed into high-earning jobs for international companies. What a great opportunity for our citizens!
