Red Sky Performance: Trace

Red Sky Performance comes to Cowichan with newest production: “Trace” An Inspiring And Contemporary Indigenous Dance Work

Aleading company of Indigenous dance, theatre, music and media in Canada and worldwide, Red Sky Performance’s newest production “Trace” is at the Cowichan Performing Arts Centre, Sunday, November 14 at 7:30 pm. “Being able to confirm a date on this award-winning company’s North American Tour and to present it to our audience in Cowichan is very exciting for us,” remarked Kirsten Schrader, CVRD Arts & Culture Division Manager. “Red Sky’s mission is to create experiences of contemporary Indigenous arts and I believe that the Cowichan Region is supportive of shows of this artistic calibre and passionate spirit.” Trace is a highly kinetic contemporary dance work inspired by Indigenous (Anishinaabe) sky and star stories, offering a glimpse into our origin as well as our future evolution. “We are traceable to the very beginnings of the universe, our ancestral origins stretching across the Milky Way to the atoms burning inside of us in the ‘here and now’ on earth,” explains Red Sky Performance. Previous Red Sky productions have garnered high praise from both audiences and the media including the Globe and Mail: “audacious… astonishing… magnificent… mysterious in its beauty” and the Ottawa Citizen: “One of the most exciting performances of the 10-day festival at the Canada Dance Festival.” Powerful imagery, storytelling and music is the hallmark of each Red Sky presentation. Sandra Laronde, Executive and Artistic Director has been described as “a force of nature to be reckoned with” by Dance International. Her vision comes through in each exceptional new work and programming. It elevates the artistic ecology of contemporary Indigenous artistry and contributes to building vibrant Indigenous communities across Canada and worldwide. Touring since 2003, (dance, theatre, music and media), Red Sky’s work highlights the originality and power of contemporary performance, enabling new creations to expand the breadth and scope of Indigenous-made work in Canada. Seating at the Cowichan Performing Arts Centre is currently limited to 50% of capacity. Vaccine passport and ID required, as are masks for all
