We’ve had so much interest and excitement in this competition! Great news! Your child’s class is invited to enter the NI Schools’ Energy Efficiency Awareness Programme’s Competition. Your child is invited to ‘Design an Eco-hero ’under one of our 5 chosen energy topics, as part of our Communication EcoChallenge. This is a Communication–Challenge, Your pupils/child will write a brief but detailed description of their ideal chosen eco-hero (please email to HESPC@NIHE.GOV.UK), Alternatively, drawings with explanations will also be accepted. We need 5x Eco-Heroes to promote:

Energy Efficiency (EE) Water (W) Renewables vs. Fossil Fuels (RF) Climate Action (CA) Global Perspectives (GP) A professional illustrator will then recreate the 5 winning designs as comic heroes, to appear as one of the characters in the learning packs for 2021/22. Your pupils/child will pick a base for their Hero – Cave Hill, Marble Arch Caves, Ulster American Folk Park, Giant’s Causeway etc or a place of your choice. Under your direction, as teacher or home-schooling parent, he or she will learn basic energy concepts. Lessons will examine environmental issues from a local, home and school, and global perspective. They will learn ways to use energy and water more efficiently at home and in school. They will come to understand the difference between renewable vs. fossil fuels and the drastic facts and statistics of climate change facing our world. We will help pupils to follow the progress of the local NI Energy Strategy for 2030 and in reducing climate change for 2050.

Your involvement and support will add to your child’s success. You now have our presentation as a resources guide for energy efficiency at home and a breakdown of this year’s competition rules. Their experience at home will complete the learning cycle started at school. You will be pleased to discover how much energy your family can save! It’s crucial that our young people are given hope and empowerment, with practical ways in which they can make a difference, how ever small. Any questions - please contact us Hespc@nihe.gov.uk.

Write your Eco-Hero description and email this to us at Hespc@nihe.gov.uk (If you prefer, you can describe your hero in a drawing)
