Lima is Peru’s centre for commerce and industry. Since the mid-1900s, spontaneous growth and lack of interest in protecting nature have resulted in a collective blind spot towards ecological systems in favor of the economy. This thesis focuses on Los Pantanos de Villa, a reflection of the urban condition. It is Lima’s only protected natural area, but its role as a wetland of local and international importance continues to be threatened along the edges by urbanization. By exploring the concept of boundaries and borders, this thesis seeks to address how edges can be limits and spatially contribute to urban growth.
