Do-over
Last year was a record year for hurricanes, typhoons, and cyclones. Meanwhile, the increased intensity of sea-level rise is becoming more of a threat to coastal cities. This thesis uses the contrasting landscape conditions of urbanized and undeveloped coastline in Shenzhen Bay to explore whether traditional knowledge-based development can reduce the risk of flooding in the future. The project investigates the resiliency and vulnerability of the developed coastal edge by analyzing current fortification and coastal management strategies. The Fung Lok Wai, a wetland located on the southern coastline, becomes a site for exploring an alternative design and development strategy.
