2. THE MEMBERS ARE THE OWNERS OF THEIR FINANCIAL SERVICES CO-OP The caisse belongs to its members, who can attend the annual general meeting and elect Board members among themselves. A bank doesn’t allow clients to take part in decisionmaking nor does it allow them to join decisionmaking bodies, which is the privilege of a small number of people: the shareholders.
4. ELECTED OFFICERS, REPRESENTATIVES OF MEMBERS AND THEIR COMMUNITIES Members of a caisse can apply to be on the Board of Directors of their financial services co-op. If they are elected, they can either join the Board of Directors or various other committees in charge of addressing specific issues, and can also be asked to represent their caisse or their region in other decision-making bodies of the Mouvement des caisses populaires acadiennes. n Over 200 elected leaders take part in the management and development of the Caisses populaires acadiennes; control is always ensured by members of the community.
n Members and local communities have shared more than $20 million in individual and collective dividends over the past five years (2010-2014).
6. THE SEARCH FOR PROFITABILITY, BUT WITH A DIFFERENT OBJECTIVE Any business has to be profitable in order to last. That’s why the Caisses populaires acadiennes must also match prices and market conditions. However, each caisse maintains profitability not for the benefit of a small number of people, but to ensure its development and to ensure quality services to its members. By maintaining good financial health, each caisse is able to: n Provide financial support for the socio-economic development of the community.
7. A DIFFERENT KIND OF SOCIAL INVOLVEMENT, A REAL CONTRIBUTION TO THE SOCIO-ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT OF COMMUNITIES The Caisses populaires acadiennes have existed for nearly 80 years.
