DO YOU still value everyday products like matches, cotton swabs or teabags? Probably not, so don’t miss out the chance to rethink your behaviour at the Timekeeper exhibition by US artist Sarah Sze. She incorporates various household objects into her sculptures and installations to cherish unperceived materials and question human behaviour, as well as our relation to the world. The self-proclaimed sculptor originally studied architecture and painting at Yale University and the School of Visual Arts in New York.

The studies influenced the paradoxical nature of her artworks as most of the installations resemble landscapes or even universes in which the boundaries of architecture, video and painting are challenged. Sze does not see the sculptures as single objects, but as one constellation that touches topics such as sustainability, evanescence and scale. In a way they are an abstract portrayal of the artist’s own personality. A teacher at Columbia University, arguably her greatest successes was representing the US at the Venice Biennale in 2013. Barely a week goes by without another of her numerous exhibitions opening around the world or her receiving another diverse award. If you are interested in delving into Sze’s universes and gaining a new perspective on time, then don’t miss out on her impressive installation!

STRUGGLE FOR POWER AND DOMINANCE AFTER MISS JULIE depicts a struggle for power and dominance enacted through a cruel and compulsive game of seduction and repulsion. In an atmosphere of wild revelry and loosened social constraints, Miss Julie and John dance and drink, charm and manipulate each other. She, all hauteur longing for abasement, he, ambitious, polished but coarse – both united in mutual loathing and attraction. By turns seductive and bullying, savage and tender, their intimacy leads to desperate plans and a vision of a life together... Unsure if the morning brings hope or hopelessness, Julie and John find their escape in a final act as sublime and horrific as anything in Greek tragedy. SET IN 1945 in an English country house on the eve of The Labour Party’s landslide victory at the end of the Second World War, this compelling and erotic psychological thriller is inspired by August Strindberg’s once universally banned masterpiece Miss Julie. During the celebrations, Julie wanders into the servants’ quarters. As she flirts with her father’s handsome chauffeur, what begins as game playing quickly ignites into passion, with devastating consequences.

YOU PROBABLY know him from his days as the lead singer of the British alternative rock band Keane, who shot to fame 2004 with songs like ‘Somewhere Only We Know’ and ‘Everybody’s Changing’. Four years on from his last tour with Keane, Chaplin has decided to take to the road again to promote his first solo album, The Wave, in which he is making his debut as a songwriter. The result is a very personal album for which Chaplin has plunged the depths of his drug and alcohol addictions for inspiration. He entered

rehab on two occasions: in 2006 and 2013, the last time Keane performed together, although they remain in regular contact and good friends. In fact, all three original members went to the same primary and secondary school. In the song ‘Worthless Worlds’ Chaplin sings about the day he thought he was dying: “Three days later I’m fighting for breath/Death sees me look out over the edge.” The release of the album has been a big success in the UK, with top reviews swiftly following around the world, but anything else would have been a waste. After all, he is often credited with having one of the best male voices of this century. Keane didn’t officially split up in 2013, but it has now been four years, and if you’re experiencing cold turkey, then maybe this is the rehab you’ve been looking for.

HIS SEASON the museums and attractions of Copenhagen are all about sustainability, green energy, and recycling. ‘Going green’ has fast become a competitive worldwide trend and the city of Copenha-

gen is no exception to that. In fact Copenhagen was elected European Green Capital in 2014 and aims to become the world’s first CO2-neutral capital by 2025. The Copenhageners excel in sustainable solutions:

cycling, organic eating and green energy. Go eco-friendly touristing in Copenhagen; stay at one of the city’s many eco-certified hotels,

and visit this season’s special exhibitions themed around climate, energy consumption and waste recycling.

ET’S TALK about trash: floors made of car tyres, ceilings made of plastic bottles and walls made of scrap wood. This spring’s special exhibition at

the Danish Architecture Centre, Wasteland, challenges our way of looking at rubbish. Every year 1.3 million tonnes of waste is produced in Denmark alone, and waste production is fast growing in both volume and toxicity. These days, architects and designers are therefore looking into how we can recycle our plastics, metal and paper – making one

reopened in Hellerup north of Copenhagen. Experimentarium is a stimulating and hands-on exhibition place for children (of all ages) to get in touch with their inner scientist. In Energy Zone the focus is on energy consumption and alternative energy sources. Experiment with environment-friendly energy and generate your own power. Get a

prominent and internationally recognised Japanese architect Hiroshi Sambuichi is regarded as one of the top experimentalists of sustainable architecture who approaches the global challenges of today. This exhibition at The Cisterns will take form as a wondrous installation in which Sambuichi’s approach to – and investigation of – the existing architecture and surroundings

will be demonstrated. The Cistern’s cave becomes a selfsufficient energy scape – an isolated cycle between water, light, air, plants and humans. It is an underground landscape that visitors can venture into, investigate and experience, between contrasts of unfathomable darkness and areas of subtle daylight.

PEND AN exciting day at the DieselHouse and give in to your inner technology nerd. The DieselHouse holds one of the world’s largest

man’s trash into another man’s treasure. Wasteland is a window into an imminent future, when waste will play a crucial role in the way we live, work and consume. diesel engines, The HC Ørsted engine from 1933. In the industrial society of the 1900s, the diesel engine became just as important as the steam engine was in the previous century. The diesel engine was the driving force of all large ships, providing society with commodities, materials and fuel. It propelled ferries, trains and construction machinery of all kinds. Since the first engine was created, the

diesel engine has undergone an immense development when it comes to fuel consumption, and today it is designed to work on all kinds of more eco-friendly fuel: natural gas, hydrogen and even plant oil. Learn the whole fascinating story and follow the development of diesel technology from the late 1800s to the present – and get a glimpse of the future too.
