FormerlyMe is an online movement to motivate and inspire people to become the best version of themselves by showing them my journey and experience in trying a new workout and lifestyle regime every 90 days. Every post, update, and video is ‘formerly me’ as I endeavor to become the best version of myself and become FormerlyMe. Each month CP Magazine will showcase a part of my journey to becoming the best version of myself. I hope that in turn this inspires and motivates you to start your own journey as well. For this month’s story we will focus on the “On the Go: St Kitts” days of my journey.

Saint Kitts, or officially Saint Christopher, is one part of a two island country called Saint Kitts and Nevis. Both islands are separated by only a shallow 3 kilometer channel known as “The Narrows”. Before they gained their independence in 1983, they were first home to colonies by the British and the French. Although their economy was first based upon the sugar trade of the 1700s and well into the early 1900s, today tourism is a major part of their economy. It is of no small wonder with the pristine waters and luscious green terrain that this would be anything else that a place to take a getaway trip to.

One of the things you will notice immediately when visiting this island is that many young Americans and Canadians live on the island. These are mostly students of the islands veterinary school, Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine, is world renowned. Across the island you will find many sites to visit, and most of these sites are estates and manors in various conditions of upkeep. A few sights to see are Wingfield Estate, Brimstone Hill Fortress, and Mount Liamuiga which is a volcano that last erupted over 1800 years ago.

Most travel sites online will tell you that December to May is the best time to visit, but with the favorable trade winds I would say that it is almost year round except for their rainy season is June to December. Whether you arrive by boat or plane, this is a destination that will surely leave you wanting to explore more of the Caribbean. Be sure to pack the sunscreen and a sense of adventure!

There is also a scenic railcar that runs around the island, but be sure to check their website as the train is not always running. Hiring a driver is super easy and taking the scenic roads around the island will give you multiple lookout points to take in the beauty of the land and sea. I particularly liked when we went to the side of the island where you can see Nevis island a short distance away. Almost so close you can swim to it!
