Academic registration time frames

Fully accepted applicants and returning students who wish to receive assistance with online registration should contact the Call Centre and/or access the following link for detailed staff contact information: https://www.cput.ac.za/enquiries

Additional resources have specifically been made available during the registration period to deal with online registration queries.

The University strives towards being a student-centered institution and has invested a lot in ensuring the smooth running of online registration. Therefore, we would like to encourage students to make use of the online registration platform than having to stand in long queues. Students should only visit the on-campus venues indicated in the registration booklet should they experience technical difficulties.

Undergraduate Registration (Incl. BTech/ Advanced Diploma progs)

First-year students

Off-campus and online registration is scheduled: 30 January to 10 February 2023.

First-year students who have been fully accepted and are not awaiting final acceptance based on the recent 2022 NSC results may proceed with the registrations as early as 30 January 2023.

First-year students with provisional acceptance based on the final 2022 NSC results: • Faculties will conduct final acceptance based on the final 2022 NSC results from

Tuesday, 24 January to Friday, 3 February 2023. • Successful students will receive an automated sms indicating their final acceptance.

The outcome will also be communicated via an automated SMS to the cell phone number provided to CPUT during your application for the 2023 academic year.

Please register within 48 hours from receipt of this SMS to avoid your space being allocated to the next deserving applicant. The 48-hour rule can only be applied as from Monday, 30 January 2023.

Returning students

Off-campus and online registrations commence from Monday, 16 January 2023. Registration time frames may vary. Please refer to the detailed registration schedule for the commencement and end date for registrations (from page 46).

Postgraduate Registration (MTech/ Master’s/ MEd & DTech/ Doctoral/ DEd programmes)

Closing dates: Returning students (Full Research M and D programmes) – 3 March 2023 MTech/ Master’s (Course-based programmes) – 3 March 2023 First-time registering students (Full Research M and D programmes) – 31 May 2023

Online assistance capacity has been increased for online registrations. Registration operational hours

On-campus and online assistance is available on weekdays from 08:30–15:00.

Change of address

It is your responsibility to update your contact details, and most importantly, your cellphone number at all times. Please update the information online through the SOS system at http://www.cput.ac.za/SOS. If there are details that you cannot change (e.g. surname), then submit your request with a copy of your Identification Document to admissions@cput.ac.za

First-year welcoming

The Vice-Chancellor of the Cape Peninsula University of Technology will address all registering first-year students on the following dates:

14 February 2023 - Wellington Campus (10:00) – House Murray Gardens 15 February 2023 - District Six Campus (10:00) – Piazza 16 February 2023 - Bellville Campus (10:00) – Major Sports Hall

The Division of Student Affairs and Services invites all first-year students, subsequently to the Welcoming Procession of the VC, to visit the stalls, exhibitions and student activities that will be on offer between 10:00 to 14:00 at above campuses on the dates listed. This will give students the opportunity to familiarise themselves with all the different student support departments and services on offer to students.

Inclusive education and disability support services

CPUT Disability Unit: Vision

To empower and support students with disabilities to reach their full potential in an inclusive academic environment that is respectful of human rights and treats all students with worth and dignity.

CPUT Disability Unit services – We provide:

• Support to students with disabilities • Support to lecturers working with students with disabilities • Language capturer for students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing • Group or one-on-one training on specialised software programs and/or assistive devices • Assessments of students with disabilities’ needs • Applications and recommendations for reasonable accommodation and exam concessions for students with disabilities • Inputs into policy development • Outreach and marketing • Research and Advocacy services • Academic assistance during assessments • Awareness raising and sharing of best practices • Resource Centre and labs with short-term loan devices, specialised devices and software

We are pleased to offer a number of different assistive devices to students with disabilities to support them in their academic development: • Large screen computer monitors • Scanners • Magnifiers • Braille embosser • Special large font keyboards • Digital recorders

All first-year students with disabilities must please contact the Disability Unit for assistance upon registration. This also applies to returning students with disabilities who have not approached the Disability Unit before.

Applications for assessment concessions and reasonable accommodations for students with disabilities should occur before the end of March (1st Semester) or end of August (2nd Semester). Unfortunately, no late applications will be considered. Medical and supporting documentation are required. All information will be dealt with with the necessary confidentiality.
