WELCOME, OPENING TIMES & BUY ART FAIR TEAM
Hello everyone and welcome to Buy Art Fair 2013 Now in our sixth year and with a record number of galleries with work for sale, Buy Art Fair and The Manchester Contemporary are now well and truly established as the largest and most prestigious art fair outside London, and a mainstay of the cultural calendar in the North of England. Make the most of your visit to Buy Art Fair by viewing The Manchester Contemporary next door,(your ticket gains you free entry to both fairs), joining our free tours with experts from Manchester Art Gallery, staying for a bite to eat and a glass of wine in our Long Bar café and keeping your little ones entertained with free activity packs. As ever the support from across the region has been incredible and we would like to thank Spinningfields for the wonderful venue, the Arts Council of England and Manchester City Council for their continued support and vision, and all our sponsors and cultural partners. But most importantly I would like to thank you, for choosing to buy original art and to support artists, the galleries that champion them and for helping the arts ecology of the North to go from strength to strength. Whether this is your first visit to Buy Art Fair or you are a seasoned collector looking to spot the next big thing, we hope you enjoy all the fun of the fair and leave with a piece of art to love and inspire tucked under your arm.

We have great pleasure in inviting you to the fifth edition of The Manchester Contemporary. Year on year, The Manchester Contemporary’s participants, audience and sales have continued to grow providing evidence of the increasing appetite for what the fair has to offer. We are delighted therefore to announce that 2013 will present our largest list of gallery spaces. In the UK The Manchester Contemporary remains the only art fair outside London to bring together these high-calibre exhibitors of critically engaged contemporary art. The Manchester Contemporary will enable visitors to view and engage with the work of over 100 artists and, with prices ranging from £50 to £10,000+, provides an opportunity for both the seasoned collector and those new to buying contemporary art. The Manchester Contemporary takes place just a few steps away from Buy Art Fair at Leftbank, beside Slug and Lettuce. Entry is free with your Buy Art Fair ticket. We look forward to welcoming you,

The Kenyan Wild Flower Paintings of Joy Adamson A touring exhibition organised by Nature in Art 7 September – 5 October
Joy Adamson is perhaps best known for her conservation work with big cats (particularly the lioness 'Elsa'). The rearing and recording of Elsa's life brought her fame and fortune with the book Born Free (made into a film in 1966) and its sequels. Less well known is that Joy was a very accomplished artist. Her mercurial temperament led her to study medicine, music, sculpture and photography. Only after she met Swiss botanist Peter Bally did she discover her flare for botanical painting. This exhibition brings together a rarely seen collection of original botanical watercolours.
Michael Kenna: A Retrospective 12 October – 23 November
One of the most internationally acclaimed fine art photographers of the modern era, Michael Kenna was born in Widnes and is returning to Halton to celebrate his 60th birthday with a retrospective exhibition of some of his most stunning photographs. “I am interested in the relationship, juxtaposition, and interaction between the landscape and the structures that we, humans leave on the landscape. Stories, footprints, evidence, traces, atmosphere, and history… That’s what I always return to.” MK summer 2012 There will be a talk by Michael Kenna followed by a book signing on Sat 12 Oct at 12.30pm. Tickets are £2 from the box office on 0151 907 8360

Painting by Michael Gutteridge
Michael Gutteridge is an artist who lives and breathes
Manchester. Born and discovered in the city, the eclectic urban landscape forms chief subject of his paintings. Drawing from stimuli such as music and psychology, Gutteridge brings together disparate influences to capture the vibrancy and multi-valence of Manchester. His distinctive style relies on techniques of distortion and juxtaposition to create expressionist and surreal depictions of the city’s architecture, as well as conveying social life of Manchester.
