MEDIA RELEASE 2 February 2011

Somerset exercise gets personal

Somerset and surrounding residents can receive free advice and support from a qualified personal trainer in ANZAC Park when the Somerset Exercise Group gets underway on 7 February. Twice a week on Mondays and Thursdays from 11.30am to 12.30pm, Gareth Jubb of Gareth Jubb Fitness will provide group and personalised fitness instruction for all‐comers using the park’s exercise equipment. The Somerset Exercise Group is being offered as a free service by the Waratah‐Wynyard Council as part of the Cradle Coast Authority’s federally funded Healthy Communities Initiative. Richard Muir‐ Wilson, Community Development Officer at Waratah‐Wynyard Council, has been coordinating seven Healthy Communities programs planned for the municipality. “We have Healthy Communities programs starting in Somerset, Waratah and Wynyard over the coming weeks,” said Mr Muir‐Wilson. “They include a variety of healthy living initiatives such as exercise classes, cycling programs, walking groups and kitchen gardening.” “It’s been a satisfying process to customise the programs to match community suggestions and the equipment and facilities available in each town – and, of course, to be able to offer them for free is hopefully a great incentive for residents to get involved.” Mr Muir‐Wilson said. Somerset Exercise Group will meet in ANZAC Park at 11.30am on Monday and Thursday each week, starting from 7 February until mid May. Registrations for the free program can be made by calling the Community Services team at Waratah‐Wynyard Council on 6443 8320. End… The Healthy Communities Initiative is a federally funded COAG program to maximise participation in lifestyle health programs. Twelve Local Government Areas Australia‐wide were selected to participate in a pilot of the program, including North West Tasmania’s Cradle Coast Authority.
