A joint release with Burnie, Central Coast, Circular Head, Devonport, Kentish, Latrobe, Waratah‐Wynyard, and West Coast councils
MEDIA RELEASE 9 March 2010 More than 1000 motorhomes to put the region’s RV Friendly status to the test The Cradle Coast region is classified as one of the most recreational vehicle (RV) friendly in Australia with thirteen of our towns and cities bearing the RV Friendly signs, and another two pending certification. This bodes well for more than 1000 members of the Campervan and Motorhome Club of Australia who will be in Carrick from 15 – 21 March for their 24 th national motorhome rally, and no doubt will be taking the opportunity to tour the state before and after the event. The Cradle Coast Authority in conjunction with eight member councils are working to ensure a good experience for both the RV tourists and the businesses and services that the visitors utilise. RV tourists typically stay for a minimum of three nights in a town and spend in the range of $600 to $1000 a week at local businesses including grocery outlets, chemists, service stations, newsagents, dry cleaners and other general retail stores. Visitors in vans that are not fully self‐contained also bring business to our region’s caravan parks. The councils and Authority are particularly supportive of the Motorhome Club’s Leave No Trace code of conduct scheme. To qualify, members with a self‐contained vehicle must meet requirements for holding fresh, grey and black water, as well as storage capacity for garbage. Councils allow self‐contained vehicles to park overnight in specially designated areas, while non self‐contained vehicles are required to stay overnight in caravan parks. Information will be available at Visitor Information Centres and distributed at the rally advising RV tourists of the location of caravan parks and self‐contained parking spots in the north west and west of the state. RV tourists are being encouraged to check with local Visitor Information Centres to see where parking permits are required. “We’re confident that our region will live up to its RV Friendly reputation and, in return, the motorhome tourists will do the right thing by our environment, local residents and businesses,” said Ian Waller, Cradle Coast Regional Tourism Development Manager. End… Cradle Coast tourism works with the tourism and associated industries, councils, state government and visitor centres to create a regional tourism sector that delivers economic, social and environmental benefits to the Cradle Coast.
