MEDIA RELEASE 4 May 2010 Taking a taste of the Cradle Coast to Hobart For a taste of what the Cradle Coast has to offer, Hobart residents and visitors don’t have to go further than the Salamanca Market this weekend. The North West and Western Wilderness regions will be showcasing their delicious local produce including beef, crayfish, chocolates and cheese and an equally wide range of accommodation packages at a display on the market lawns this Saturday from 8.00am to 4.00pm. The North West Coast and Western Wilderness Tourism Zone Marketing Groups, in conjunction with the Cradle Coast Authority, have compiled the free food, beverage and accommodation showcase to give Southern residents a sample of what’s in store if they opt for a weekend getaway. There are eighteen accommodation specials on offer plus samples of King Island beef, cheese and crayfish; Christmas Hills Raspberry Farm chocolate coated berries; 41 South salmon; Anvers chocolates; Stanley crayfish and octopus; Seven Shed Brewery beers; Ghost Rock Vineyard wines; Ashgrove cheese; Petuna Seafoods trout; Barringwood Park wines; and free tulip and iris bulbs from the Table Cape Tulip Farm. “An Autumn or Winter holiday in Tasmania can represent fantastic value for money, especially when you consider the world‐class local produce that visitors can enjoy while only a few hours from home,” said Don Monk, Tourism Marketing Coordinator at the Cradle Coast Authority. “And if the old adage is true that the way to a person’s heart is via their stomach then we’re confident that our Southern neighbours will love what’s on offer on the North West Coast, King Island and the Western Wilderness.” A feature of the Salamanca Market display will be a barbeque manned by Garry Sullivan of The Corinna Experience and Western Wilderness Marketing Zone Group. Garry will be cooking Macquarie Harbour West Coast salmon dressed with lemon myrtle and Waratah pepper berry and a range of other free treats based on regional seafood and beef. This is the first time that the North West Coast and Western Wilderness has been showcased at the market. Plans are underway to repeat the interactive display in September with more accommodation packages, food, and beverages, and an extension to include samples of regional arts and crafts. End… Cradle Coast tourism works with the tourism and associated industries, councils, state government and visitor centres to create a regional tourism sector that delivers economic, social and environmental benefits to the Cradle Coast.
