MEDIA RELEASE

13 July 2011

Regional tourism campaign is underway

Only 4 weeks after Tourism Minister Scott Bacon announced $50,000 of funds for the Cradle Coast Authority to run a regional tourism campaign; promotions for the North West and West Coast have hit the airwaves. The commercial radio and television campaign is reinforced with newspaper advertisements and email promotions to encourage residents in the North and South of the State to take a winter break in the region. The advertisements are designed to appeal to a variety of markets by highlighting different regional experiences including wilderness areas, local produce, indulgent escapes, wildlife and adventure activities. Viewers are directed to the website www.mytassiebreak.com where they can find offers and make bookings for North West and West Coast operators. A freecall 1800 number is also available for bookings. The Cradle Coast Authority developed the campaign using the ‘Where will the stories take you’ theme and invited tourism operators in the region to participate at no cost. Tourism Marketing Officer and campaign coordinator, Kylie Scolyer, said that the lead‐time in creating the campaign was quick and assisted by the response of the region’s operators. “The operators recognise that this campaign is a bonus on top of their usual marketing plans and are keen to make the most of it,” Ms Scolyer said. “They’re promoting packages from only $69 per night so I suspect there will be some local residents who are tempted to take a winter getaway too.” The campaign will run for 8 weeks in the lead‐up to September school holidays. In related developments, the www.tasmaniasnorthwest.com.au and www.tasmaniaswesternwilderness.com.au tourism websites will soon also be updated to support direct ‘click to book’ capabilities. End… Cradle Coast tourism works with the tourism and associated industries, Councils, State Government and visitor centres to create a regional tourism sector that delivers economic, social and environmental benefits to the North West and West Coast of Tasmania.
