Thousands of Cradle Coast households to start fortnightly, kerbside recycling September 14 Thousands of Cradle Coast households will start their new fortnightly kerbside recycling collections from Monday, September 14. The new bin with the yellow lid was delivered to households during July, along with an information pack explaining how and when to recycle. According to Cradle Coast Authority Executive Chairman, Roger Jaensch, the challenge for the community now, was to use the bins correctly. “The information packs show exactly what can and can’t be placed in the bins, and the fridge magnet calendar explains what day each fortnight the bin will be collected,” Mr Jaensch said. From September 14, the participating recycling councils include Devonport, Burnie, Kentish, Latrobe, Circular Head and Central Coast, whilst Waratah Wynyard will start collections at a date to be announced. “Most people actually want to recycle because they appreciate it is good for the environment, however, not everyone knows what they can and can’t put in the recycle bins,” Mr Jaensch said. “It is important that residents read the information stamped on the bin lids and also contained in their information packs,” he said. The contractor responsible for the kerbside recycling collection service is Veolia Environmental Services. Veolia’s Northern Area Manager, Peter George, said the company had many years experience in providing kerbside recycling collection and processing services throughout Australia and overseas. He said ensuring the recyclables products are not contaminated by waste will optimise recovery of material and minimise waste to landfill, which has the double barrel effect of reducing operating costs and benefiting the environment.
