MEDIA RELEASE Visitor Information Network meets in Strahan tomorrow From high level sales training through to tips on managing their precious volunteer staff, the members of the Tasmanian Visitor Information Centre Network have many learning options at their annual conference in Strahan tomorrow (Thursday August 20). Made up of 22 Visitor Information Centres from across Tasmania as well as the three regional tourism associations, this is their first official meeting since they assumed autonomy from the auspices of Tourism Tasmania. Easily identified by their yellow “i” symbol, Network members discuss ideas on a regular basis at both a regional and statewide level, but, the annual conference is the only occasion where all centres get together to communicate shared issues. The Network was originally formed to ensure all centres were providing service and information to tourists at the highest possible level. This year’s annual conference convener and Cradle Coast Authority’s Regional Tourism Manager, Ian Waller, said the Network ensured uniformity in the quality, and type of service provided by all centre’s operating under the yellow ‘i’ symbol. Included on the conference agenda this year are topics such as: managing volunteers; high performance management and sales training for middle management; on line booking options for visitor centres; marketing and promotion of the Network and its services. Mr Waller said the Strahan tourism industry was supporting the conference with accommodation and tours provided at discounted rates, or free-of-charge to Network members.
