MEDIA ALERT Cradle Coast Authority puts our tourism volunteers on a pedestal for a day Monday May 11 2009 More than 160 Cradle Coast tourism volunteers will have a day of fun and learning when they gather in Ulverstone this Wednesday for the first ever Cradle Coast Authority “Volunteer Recognition Day”. Even if each of the volunteers did just five hours of voluntary work each week over one year, the value would equate to the cost of employing more than 1000 full-time positions in the region, according to the Authority’s Regional Tourism Manager Ian Waller. “Tourism volunteers from across the North West constantly give their time freely to provide a local and friendly face to visitors to this region, either through staffing visitor information centres, or by other means – this must be understood and these people recognised,” Mr Waller said. Volunteers will receive presentations from various speakers on topics ranging from physical health and well being through to the value of volunteers to the tourism industry across Tasmania and beyond.

WHAT: Tourism - Volunteer Recognition Day WHERE: Ulverstone Civic Centre WHEN: Wednesday, May 13, 2009 (from 10am)
