MEDIA RELEASE “Shades of Green” website launch showcases unique regional tourism forum opportunities A website showcasing the unique “Shades of Green” regional tourism forum to be held in Strahan on August 11 and 12, has been launched this week. Specially designed with an environmental theme, Cradle Coast Authority’s Regional Tourism Development Manager, Ian Waller, said the “Shades of Green” tourism forum and accompanying website highlighted the significance of the environment to the region’s tourism sector and its future. Mr Waller said the website, where people can register for the forum on-line, had been developed to support the overall approach of ensuring the tourism forum “enabled tourism operators and sponsors to showcase their green innovations and credentials and to build upon their knowledge of ways of capturing the burgeoning green market”. “The “Shades of Green” website is just one of many measures we’re putting in place to provide the local tourism industry and others, with inspiration in this important area,” Mr Waller said. Another theme to be explored at the forum is how tourism operators manage business under the current economic climate. Mr Waller said the forum would explore opportunities for tourism operators to engage with their customers on line, a strategy that also promotes a reduced environmental footprint. Key forum speakers include Tourism Tasmania Chief Executive Officer, Felicia Mariani, who will speak about managing in a changing world, and Tourism Research Australia’s Manager of Forecasting and Analysis, Andrew Maurer, who will deliver a presentation entitled “Where are we going?”. Speakers underpinning the “green” aspect of the forum include: Acting Chief Executive Officer, EcoTourism Australia, Kristie Grey - ecotourism accreditation; and General Manager EC3 Global, Mark Olsen - Green Globe accreditation. Mr Waller encouraged those interested in attending the forum to take advantage of the on-line registration form on the new “Shades of Green” website www.shadesofgreen.com.au .
