TOURISM MARKETING OFFICER North West Coast and Western Wilderness Zone Marketing Groups Position Description ROLE: RESPONSIBLE FOR: EMPLOYER: REPORT TO: PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:

Tourism Marketing Officer North West Coast Marketing Zone and Western Wilderness Marketing Zone Cradle Coast Authority (CCA) Regional Tourism Development Manager (RTDM) Develop and Implement marketing initiatives on behalf of the North West Coast and Western Wilderness Zone Marketing Groups

Primary Expectations 1. To work with members of the zone marketing groups and Tourism Tasmania to produce and implement tourism marketing initiatives specific to Tasmania’s North West Coast and the Western Wilderness that are aligned to the directions of Tourism Tasmania, encourages regional participation and creates a point of difference for individual zones. 2. To assume responsibility for the ongoing development, distribution and management of zone specific brand collateral and interpretation. 3. To create expanded marketing strategy’s that encourage regional buy in, and includes a financial contribution to the development of future strategic campaigns. Specific Expectations and Duties 1. Provide the most up to date and professional marketing expertise for the Tasmania’s North West Coast and Western Wilderness zone marketing regions. 2. Develop and implement zone specific annual marketing plans addressing new and current target markets. 3. Develop and implement 2 year zone specific strategic marketing plans 4. Create strategies that encourage local buy in, ownership and active participation. 5. Project manage promotional campaigns/strategies and provide post implementation analysis 6. Keep up to date with the latest research and trends in the travel industry both specific to the region and external to the region. This includes the interpretation and dissemination of current information to stakeholders. 7. Provide monthly reports to the North West Coast and Western Wilderness zone marketing groups, and the Regional Tourism Development Manager, including attending monthly zone marketing groups. 8. Liaise, as required with Tourism Tasmania and provide information about the region as required. 9. Encourage stakeholders (Local Government and Tourism Operators) to make the most of opportunities presented by and to the RTO.


The Person and the Selection Criteria The following essential selection criteria must be addressed: 1. Thorough knowledge and understanding of the creative, media and production aspects of advertising including management of costs and experience in liaising with an advertising agency, communication consultants and market research providers. 2. Proven experience in the successful implementation of advertising strategies and programs. 3. Ability to self-manage with minimum supervision and to simultaneously undertake a number of projects and manage critical bottlenecks. 4. Demonstrated interpersonal skills to facilitate effective communication with external partners, including highly developed oral and written communication skills. 5. Demonstrated marketing success in delivering growth in product volume and value in a competitive market place. 6. Experience and knowledge of the travel and tourism industry would be regarded highly. 7. Ability to exercise sound judgement and make quick decisions on day to day issues, including responding to sudden changes in priorities and working under pressure. 8. Experience in managing budgets and reporting processes 9. Current drivers licence. The following additional desirable selection criteria should be addressed if candidate can offer experience in this area: 1. Appropriate tertiary qualification and demonstrated experience in areas such as consumer marketing, advertising and promotion, market research, product/brand management and project management. Key Result Areas 1. Endorsement, publication and implementation of an annual Regional marketing strategy and budget. 2. Securing financial contribution from stakeholders for the development and implementation of the marketing strategy. 3. Implementation of new marketing initiatives. 4. Identification of new target markets. 5. Achievement of set targets. Conditions of Employment The Period of Employment - The initial appointment of the Cradle Coast Tourism Marketing Officer will be aligned to the period of agreement between the Cradle Coast Authority, the North West Coast and Western Wilderness zone marketing group and Tourism Tasmania and will be for an initial period of 2 years.

The Package - A final remuneration package, will be negotiated with the selected candidate, dependent on qualifications and experience.

The Location - This position is based at the Authority’s offices in Burnie, but may require overnight travel throughout the Cradle Coast region, Tasmania and interstate.


The Hours - The position will be based on a 37.5 hour working week, between the hours of 8.30am and 5.00pm, but occasionally will be expected to operate after normal working hours with possible overnight travel within Tasmania and interstate. Overtime will not be paid but time off may be approved in lieu of payment for authorised work outside normal business hours.
