2019 COACHING BOOKLET 16 Lesson plans to inspire a new season
2019 COACHING BOOKLET
About this resource and our lesson plan philosophy. At Steel Soccer we believe all sessions should follow a rationally progressive methodology that is athlete-centered and creates a positive, challenging learning environment for every player. All coaches should pre-plan their sessions, reflect upon the success of the session, and create a library of sessions that can be shared to benefit all coaches within an organization. Steel Soccer believes all aspects of the athlete’s development should be considered when planning sessions. The social, emotional and intellectual stages of the athlete’s development are therefore as important as their stage of physical development when designing and planning your sessions for different age groups. The long-term player development philosophy and Principles of Play curriculum we at Steel Soccer adhere to ensure we have a pathway which will allow players to fulfill their potential while also supporting our coaches in their continuing pursuit of excellence. The sessions included in this free resource were collated by Ian Hughes (Director of Player and Coach Development), formerly of the Welsh FA, as well as Steel Soccer DOC’s and Senior Coaches. Each session is designed in one of two ways: Progressive in terms of building towards a Scrimmage (free play) final phase which is structured as follows: • Warm Up • Technical-Skill Phase • Conditioned Game • Scrimmage • Cool Down (Recap) Play- Practice-Play (or Whole-Part-Whole) • Players participate in free play • Possibly Technique-Skill Phase (not always included) • Conditioned game or Functional Phase • Scrimmage • Cool Down (Recap) We would like to wish all coaches a successful season.
