Shapiro | Illustrated by Christopher Herndon The third volume in the Terra Tempo graphic novel series, Terra Tempo: The Academy of Planetary Evolution starts off with a big bang as the series’ intrepid heroes, Jenna, Caleb, and Ari race from the Cenozoic era to the modern age, making their way through the evolution of mammals, to finally earn their degrees from the Academy of Planetary Evolution and be considered full-fledged Time Explorers. But when the Bone Wars of the late 1800s threaten to break over to the modern age, and Ari has been taken in for questioning, the kids find themselves in a fight alongside some of history’s most notable historical figures and natural historians, including Herman Melville, Annie Montague Alexander, and Andrew Carnegie, as they race to ensure the safety of the world’s history, and it’s future. Eric Wayne Dickey Abbey Paccia Craigmore Creations
He found a small tide pool and floated around it on a twig. He made believe he was a sailor ant aboard a big ship and yelled out, “Aye, aye, skipper,” and, “Walk the plank!” and various other sailor-type sayings. While floating around the tide pool, Alex looked down into the water. He saw clams and barnacles. He even saw an anemone and a sea star. Suddenly, Alex saw a fish swim toward him. It nearly tipped over Alex’s twig boat. He quickly paddled back to shore.
The older ants asked Alex to stay on the lookout to keep the ants safe while they worked. Alex found a nice sunny spot on the beach, next to a big rock close to the work site. He pulled out his blanket; it fluttered and rippled as he spread it out on the sand. He heard the sound of ocean waves. Being a natural scout, he wanted to get a closer look at the ocean.

When tragedy befalls his family, he sets out on the Appalachian Trail, determined to follow in his father’s and grandfather’s footsteps. He fights blisters, hunger, rain, and pain. But worst of all, he faces his own self-doubt and fear. The ghosts of his father and grandfather, and the spirits of the woods lurk in his mind. When Eli joins up with a group of young hikers in Virginia, his goal begins to slip further away. With his obstacles surmounting, there may not be enough trail magic to save him. June 25 — 12:01 p.m. There are certain things that happen to one’s sanity after long periods of time on a bus. The older man in the row behind me has started to groan in mild agony. A few rows in front of me, a young man is bouncing his foot at such a rate I’m beginning to believe he’s actually part jackrabbit. The girl sitting next to me keeps sighing and forlornly looking down at what appears to be a lock of hair

looking more like a starfish. So, seeing as I have nothing else to do for the next… ugh, more time than I’d really like to imagine… I suppose I’ll be writing here. My name is Eliza E. Walcott, and I’m at the plus end of fifteen years old. I was born in San Francisco, but I’ve spent almost all of my life in Irvine, California. I live with my mother and father in a three-bedroom apartment complex. I’m sure we could’ve moved in to a house if we wanted, but my family needed to be downtown. And it saves on gas, I’m sure.

4. The characters learn that the stars look different in the Ice Age because Earth has gone through changes in position, tilt, and orbit. Read the summary of the three planetary cycles and draw an illustration to represent the meaning. Then describe how these cycle changes affect the climate of Earth: Planetary Cycle
Illustration
Cycle 1: The orbit of Earth around the sun cycles from a circle to an ellipse about every 100,000 years. This changes the distance from Earth to the sun.
How would this effect Earth’s climate & Seasons?
Cycle 2: The tilt of the Earth’s axis cycles from 20.4 degrees to 26.2 degrees every 42,000 years. The greater the tilt, the more variation in seasons Cycle 3: Earth’s axis wobbles like a top as it spins, changing the location of the pole, stars, and the view of the Zodiac constellations. This helps chart time and location. If the Earth had no wobble, the tilt of the axis would straighten to 0 degrees (think of Cycle 2). Terra Tempo: Ice Age Cataclysm! Craigmore Creations

Blunderbuss Wanderlust Teacher's Guide Engage your students while reading this whimsical tale of one man’s journey through geologic time. Colonel Victor Von Vector’s blunderbuss gun has a peculiar recoil that moves him through geologic time with each subsequent shot. Presented in 17 Shakespearian sonnets, each sonnet describes a different geologic time period, from the Cambrian to the Cretaceous. The Blunderbuss Wanderlust Teacher’s Guide includes four lessons covering Language Arts, Earth/Physical Science, Social Science, and Art. Students will learn the structure of sonnet writing and associated vocabulary. They will complete their own geologic timeline and research the catastrophic events that changed the geology of Earth. The final project is completed as a poster or bestiary, where students will delve further into the topics by writing a sonnet of their own or illustrating the creatures of the past. Oregon State Standards are included for reference. Teacher's guide also aligns with Common Core Standards. Grade Levels: 8–9 Pages: 14, including student worksheets Format: 8.5 x 11 printable PDF
