Hollywood The red carpet was rolled out at Cranford Community College on Wednesday 7th May 2008 as the stars came to town! Students at the school became celebrities for the night when their media studies work was showcased as part of Cranford’s first ever awards ceremony- the theme for the night was ‘Bollywood meets Hollywood’. This was chosen to celebrate the vibrant mix of cultures that is evident at the school. The awards were given out for the best trailers, thriller openings and music videos that were made by students as part of the GCSE and A-level Media Studies courses. It was a fantastic opportunity for students, parents, teachers and members from the industry to see the unique work created by the talented pupils at Cranford.

Harmohit Rai and Mrs. Kaher, Pastoral Manager to the 6th form, embarked on their Fulcrum journey to Botswana in July 2008. It was an amazing and indeed a life changing experience for them both. The first project for the group of 26 students from a range of schools was to dig a foundation for a fisheries trading office in Tocadi.

Two weeks of camping in the cold, long journeys across mountains and breath taking scenery were rewarded with the joy of seeing the children’s faces and successfully completing the project.

During August 2008 to coincide with the Opening of the Olympic Games in Beijing, 11 members of staff and 20 students went on a journey of a lifetime. TIFERT (Tianjin Institute for Foreign Economic Relations and Trade) shares a long standing partnership with Cranford and hosted the visit. The trip focussed upon visits to business enterprises and cultural sites to broaden students’ understanding of the Chinese way of life.

N

The year 8 trip to the Isle of Wight during the Easter break 2008, was a great experience for Mr Kokate, Ms Suri and the pupils. Whilst visiting Kingswood for the ICT activity (Media Stage) they also participated in many outdoor activities like abseiling, climbing, laser quest and a variety of team challenges.

The Prime Minister ’s Global Fellowship has been set up to help young people understand Britain’s role on the global stage. The scheme has been created to nurture outstanding talent and enterprise through international exposure to different countries and their way of life. Thousands of students across the country applied and were K i r an interviewed but Kirandeep Sidhu S i d h u d e e p from Cranford Community College was awarded a place on the first ever project. She discovered first hand what globalisation means for Britain and for the rest of the world. Kirandeep applied for this project because she knew the opportunity was “too good to miss”.
