3RN Mariella D for her excellent use of figurative language and description in her volcano poem this week. A very exciting poem to read, well done!

Ivy M for her fantastic effort with her reading this half term. Ivy reads with expression using the punctuation to help with pace and has a very good understanding of the stories she is choosing since becoming a free reader.

Skyla N for her effort with her Volcano poem this week. Skyla wrote a descriptive poem using onomatopoeias, adjectives and similes. Well done!

3KC Abby VR for creating a fabulous volcano poem incorporating onomatopoeia, powerful verbs and adjectives and similes. Well done Abby.

Thea S for fabulous effort in maths this week when working on 2D shape as well as for reading and interpreting bard graphs and sharing this knowledge with the class.

Amelia H for enthusiasm in all areas particularly during whole class discussions and for writing a brilliant volcano poem in English.

Year 5 Visitor

We had a visit from Mrs Clark (Sophia’s mum) who has her own allotment where she grows a variety of different fruits and vegetables. She told us that allotment spaces are rented from the Council and that there is a really long waiting list for one. Once we’d learned all about the different things she grows, we had a quiz and tried to guess the produce just from the leaves which was really tricky. We then went outside onto the playground and planted two pots of our own. We all planted a lettuce and could then choose from the variety of seeds that she had brought along. We can’t wait to eat what we’ve grown!

Eco & Gardening Club

During the last two weeks in Eco and Gardening Club, the girls have been planting seeds in the greenhouse. Alan, the gardener, had prepared tomato, carrots, beans and kale. We also watered all of the seedlings in the greenhouse and looked at how all the plants had grown in the raised beds.

Art Club

This week in Art Club, Mrs Kearley and Miss Branfoot took the girls on a spring walk to find daisies. The girls began sketching their flowers beautifully, ready to create some wonderful daisy watercolour pieces as we head towards the summer. Tune in next week to see the finished results!

Year 5—Trip to Osmington Bay

Last week Year 5 had a fabulous four days at PGL in Osmington Bay, Dorset. Despite the grim forecast, the sun decided to shine down on us as we took part in a plethora of activities including; abseiling, fencing, zipwire, beachcombing and climbing. The evening activities also proved to be a big hit, with songs being sung and marshmallows being roasted around the campfire and everyone (including the teachers!) boogying away at the silent disco!

The girls were an absolute pleasure to take away and were a credit to the school and their parents. What an awesome trip!

Sports News

Cricket Well done to the U9A, B and C team who took on CLFS on Friday afternoon. In the A team, every girl gave one hundred percent in their bowling and batting, with some 4s and 6s scored! Players of the match were Sophia and Eva. The U9B scored lots of runs and demonstrated good communication when batting. A special mention to Jasmine; her bowling was consistently accurate and she picked up the ball well when fielding. Well done to Holly for getting player of the match! Well done to the U9C cricket team who played in their first match of the year! All the girls had a chance to bowl, bat and field. There was great teamwork and some good fielding skills. Darcey hit a fantastic 4 and Serena dived to the ball to stop a 4 being hit!!

The U11A cricket team travelled to Freemans on Tuesday. The girls were full of enthusiasm and keen to get started. There was some great bowling by all the girls and Freemans finished on 254 runs. St Teresa's went into bat knowing what score they had to beat. St Teresa's finished on 255!!! Winning by 1 run! The players of the matches were: Peyton and Steffi, Well done to all the girls who played.

The U11B cricket team had a cracking fixture against CLFS. Both teams batted well, and made (mostly) sensible decisions, making it a hugely contested game. Unfortunately, we gave away a couple of wickets in the last 2 overs and gave ourselves too much of a mountain to climb. The girls lost by 9 runs overall, but what a close match! The girls thoroughly enjoyed it, with players of the match going to Felicity S and Ailsa S.

The U11C’s thoroughly enjoyed their fixture, and it was a tightly contested one! Both teams batted well, fielded brilliantly and encouraged one another the whole way through. Unfortunately CLFS managed to gain a good amount of runs and beat the St T’s girls by 5 runs! Well done all!

The U11D team were very excited for their first cricket match. Iola and Clara demonstrated superb bowling, with Bella hitting every ball possible. 4s were gained by Flo, Susie and Jessica. Players of the match went to Jessica and Susie. A great start to the season!

On the same day, the U10A-C teams played St George’s. The U10A side bowled and batted very well. The girls all batted well and hit a few boundaries to finish on a score of 25, coming 11 short of a win.

The U10B girls played against St George’s. We were put into bat and after some good running between the wickets and a good last couple of overs we ended the innings on 264. St George’s had some strong hitters and we ended up losing the game 264 to 284. Well done to all that played and to Lottie C who received player of the match.

The U10C cricket team played their first match of the term. The girls battled until the very end with only 1 run telling the two teams apart! The standard of batting and bowling was fantastic with lots of 4s being scored throughout the game. A special mention to Clara who was awarded player of the match for her spectacular bowling.

Pupil News Well done to Apollonia Year 4 who took part in the National Schools Snowsports Association finals in Gloucester, Apollonia came 3rd in the girls U10 category for St Teresa’s. Great work, well done!

Music This Week

Year 4 have been composing pieces in Rondo form this week. Mrs Harris was super impressed with their focus and creative flair and was very generous with the house points!

Inter House Arts

The girls wowed the audience and judges with their house performances of different colour themed songs. The girls worked beautifully together, lead by their house captains, and their performances were very impressive. After much deliberation, St Francis house was declared the winner with a moving rendition of ‘Yellow’, by Coldplay. Well done to all the girls.

This Week

On Thursday, we celebrated together the feast of the Ascension of the Lord.

On Wednesday evening we celebrated the Vigil with Evensong, sung once again beautifully by the Schola Cantorum. It is wonderful to see this becoming such a permanent feature of our Prayer and Liturgical life in the school.

Our main celebration was on Thursday when both the Prep and Senior Schools joined together with parishioners from our local parish to celebrate Mass together. It was wonderful to see the whole community joining together to raise our hearts and minds to God.

The feast of the Ascension, marking the forty day period following Jesus resurrection, was that occasion, after that period of teaching following the resurrection, when Jesus left his earthly life to return to his place at the right hand of God in glory. We struggle to fully grasp the physical elements of this. The Gospel writers speak of ‘clouds’, ‘ascending upwards’ and ‘angels in white garments.’ Each reflects that firm belief in a heavenly realm that Jesus has now returned to.

Fr Stephen in his homily reminded us of the reason for Jesus ascension. While on earth, Jesus, who was fully God, was also fully human and, as such, was limited by his humanity. His mission was to a small area of the middle east, and his followers were limited to that region. But by returning to heaven, he opened the way for the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost that would enable to message of the Gospel to be spread all over the world. In a very real way, we give thanks that we, two thousand years later, in a land far away, share in the joy of receiving and celebrating that Gospel.

We hope that you have had a good week.

As the weather has become unpredictable, please make sure your child brings a raincoat for riding if the forecast is showing thick clouds or rain, and if it’s due to be hot then make sure they are wearing a shirt that covers their shoulders. It has been so variable lately that the staff are still bringing all their coats, just in case!

If there are any school trips or events that your daughter will be doing instead of riding, then please let the office know by phone or by email. As if you wish to cancel a lesson, we do require 48hrs notice or more in order to offer credit. Any later and we are unable to fill the slot with a rider for a catch up lesson or off the waitlist.

Charlie has been feeling under the weather for the past week, so he has been having a break and has not been doing lessons. Good news, is that Tess is back! Her first day was last Thursday and we are pleased that she is back working at STE again!

Last Saturday, Wizard, Roxy and Oliver had a physio treatment and really enjoyed it, so they will have been more comfortable this week for their lessons.

Men’s Tennis Group

ESTA is delighted to introduce a Men's Group to its programme running on MONDAYS (no longer Wednesdays) at 7:45-8:45pm!

Sessions will take place at St Teresa's for 7 weeks from 15th May until the end of term. Players should be of an intermediate standard.
