Rugby

The impressive start of the rugby season has continued in the last week, with many fantastic performances across the school. This has resulted in 16 wins in 19 matches in the last seven days against schools including Kings House, Hoe Bridge, Cranleigh and Northcote Lodge. Saturday morning was particularly impressive, with both the U11s and the U9s remaining undefeated across the year groups. This feast of rugby was enjoyed by over 120 parents and family members. It is worth noting that we have looked into the parking provision going forward, especially with the Saturday sport mornings being so popular.

Netball

Our U9s netball teams played superbly well last week over at Claremont Fan Court. Both sides moved the ball very effectively, which created many goal-scoring opportunities. At the same time, they applied plenty of pressure on the opposition to regain possession. Ms Moore was very impressed and felt on the afternoon that everything had just clicked into place. Well done, girls.

Tennis

On Thursday, Year 8 went to the Royal Albert Hall to watch the Masters Tennis. They were treated to a festival of tennis with some amazing skills and shots on display. The players on show were David Ferrer, Marcos Baghdatis, Tim Henman, Mark Philippoussis, Tommy Haas and Greg Rusedski. To finish off the session, there was an exhibition match between Mansour Bahrami & Goran Ivanisevic versus Thomas Enqvist & Xavier Malisse. Some of the group were fortunate enough to meet Judy Murray. A great time was had by all.

There will be no after-school training or swim squad training next week. Sports included in our cocurricular programme have also finished today, except a limited few. Please see other notices sent from Cranmore school reception.

Finally, thank you to the many people who have signed up for our latest sporting event, Guildford Flames ice hockey at the Guildford Spectrum on Sunday 5th January 2020. If you would still like tickets, there are some still available direct at https://www.guildfordflames.com

Cross Country Running Success for Former Pupil, Will B.

We have received news of former pupil, Will, who acted as our inaugural hare at the Cranmore Canter. Will has been competing in a new series of races called the British Athletics Cross Challenge and, after winning the U17 race in Milton Keynes a few weeks ago, it was decided that he should be entered into the U20 race in Liverpool, which was also being used as the selection for the European trials. Unbelievably, Will came fifth, which meant that he was automatically selected. This is quite an amazing achievement when one takes into consideration that he is only 16 years old.

As a result of this race, he has been selected to run for the GB Junior Men in the European Cross Country Championships in Lisbon on Sunday 8th December. He is thrilled to be adding a GB vest to his 2 England vests!

We wish you all the best, Will, and look forward to following your progress.
