The girls enjoyed their last weekend together in Guildford. They bought gifts to take home to family and for their friends in school for Secret Santa. We were sad to say goodbye to our Boarders but wish them all a wonderful Christmas and look forward to seeing them all in the New year.

This year, in the Year of Character, Years 8 and 9 were invited to submit an essay on the title of ‘What does this person mean to the world’. Entries ranged from well-known personalities such as Malala Yousafzai and David Attenborough, to lesser-known figures such as Satoshi Nakamoto, the developer of Bitcoin. The judging panel, which comprised the Sixth Form Academic Prefects (Saskia C, Ella M, Phoebe L and Charlotte W, along with Dr Poffley and Mr O'Farrell), were enormously impressed with the standard of entries, and congratulate all who took part.

The following girls received a Certificate of Commendation: Eris R, Felicity H, Kathryn P and Matilda W, with Lucie B's entry deemed Highly Commended. However, the overall winner was Julia N (pictured), who receives the Hypatia Cup for her essay on the human-rights advocate Harriet Westrich. Well done, Julia!

On Tuesday morning, the events committee and a few other girls helped decorate the reading room into our very own Sixth Form Christmas Grotto. We had a balloon arch, baubles hanging from the ceiling, snowflake paper chains, paper snowflakes made by the sixth form, glitter on the tables, lanterns with candles and pine cones on the table decorations as this was where we had our own Sixth form Christmas oriental themed lunch. Gary and the catering team did an amazing job cooking up chilli beef, chicken noodles, veggie noodles, with prawn crackers of course and a homemade chocolate roulade for dessert. A great time was had by all students and sixth form staff who could make it.
