BOARDING NEWS

Welcome back! This past Sunday we welcomed all the girls back into house for the final half term of the school year. This week the boarders have been working very hard studying and taking their exams which will soon be wrapping up. This weekend we have an exciting trip planned, we are headed into London to watch “Mamma Mia the Musical”, a spot of shopping around Covent Garden and finishing with some dinner.

Explore Lecture

A reminder that our final Explore Lecture will be on Tuesday 13th June. We are delighted to welcome Mirja Weidner. Her lecture is "Why and how sustainability is becoming front of mind in business"

Mirja joined Charterhouse Capital Partners, a UK Private Equity Firm in 2015. She is Charterhouse’s ESG Director. In 2019, Mirja also gained a Certificate in Business Sustainability Management from the Institute for Sustainability Leadership at the University of Cambridge. Mirja's lecture will cover:

 the system pressures we are facing (climate, biodiversity)

 the UN Sustainable Development Goals as global blue print to achieve system change

 if you own a business, what this means across E (environment), S (social) and G (governance)

 what role do governments, households and consumers play?

Eco Council Trip

We have been working closely with KBR who have been leading sessions on sustainability and our ocean environment. They have planned a ‘One Ocean field trip’ to Brighton on 22nd June. Throughout the day, they plan to visit the Sea Life aquarium and host a beach clean-up.

We would be grateful if you could sign and return the consent form by Thursday 15th June to indicate whether you are willing for your daughter to participate in this trip.

Our third episode gives an insight about what it is like to be a DEI Ambassador at our school. The DEI Ambassadors share information about some of the exciting projects that they are undertaking, including the collaboration between the Performing Arts, PSHE and DEI departments to explore the themes within Hairspray the musical. Miss Burgess, our DEI Officer, speaks about the disability fashion design project that her team are working on, as well as their work with local charity Cherry Trees. We hope that you enjoy listening to this episode and gaining an insight into the work of the DEI team at St Teresa's.

‘MENTAL HEALTH AND WELLBEING’ PARENT SEMINAR

Monday 19th June 15:15-16:15

We invite you to a parent seminar by David Leech on mental health and wellbeing. David Leech will be giving corresponding talks to Years 7 and 10 on the same day. In this talk, we will explore mental health and wellbeing, and what parents can do to help their daughters have happy, healthy relationships with others. David will cover how to identify specific warning signs, key terminology, new data and wellbeing strategies.

‘RELATIONSHIPS AND SEX EDUCATION’ PARENT SEMINAR

Wednesday 14th June 15:15-16:15

Teresa Baron will be giving a parent seminar on relationships and sex education. Teresa has already delivered ageappropriate sessions to Years 8-13 this year and the response has been very positive so far. In this session, we will explore the importance of healthy relationships, also focusing on child sexual exploitation and mental health. Information on your daughter’s relationships and sex education programme at St Teresa’s will be provided and there will be the opportunity to discuss this further .

VALUES WEEK WALK -YEARS 10 & 11

Our annual Values Week pilgrimage walk along the stunningly beautiful North Downs Way from St Teresa’s to Guildford Cathedral will take place on Thursday 22 June. We will meet at school at 6:45am for a 7:00am departure and will return by coach in time for the buses.

Year 7 Floreat Festival

As you are aware, each academic year we focus on one of our values, and this year it has been the Year of Intellect.

In support of this years Value, each Year 7 pupil has completed a Floreat Project and we are delighted to invite you to view the fruits of their labours at our Floreat Festival on Monday 19th June. This will take place for parents in the Sports Hall between 16:15 and 17:00 and will form a vital part of our Values Week celebrations.

WORLD SCHOLAR’S CUP GLOBAL ROUND

The global round of the World Scholar’s Cup is being held in London, at the Bloomsbury Theatre at the University College of London from the 26 to 30 July 2023. If you would like your daughter to participate in the London global round, please could you complete the consent form emailed out previously.

Ccf Summer Camp

This year’s Summer Camp will run from Sunday 9 July until Saturday 15 July. Places are limited and will be awarded on progress throughout the year in CCF. Please contact m.stephens@st-teresas.com if you would like your daughter to take part.

Year 9 Medicals

Year 9 Medicals will be running from 15 - 19 June. Please check the timetable emailed out to find out when your daughter’s time slot is.

Year 8 Religious Studies Trip

The Religious Studies Department have arranged for all of Year 8 to attend an outdoor performance of The Life of Christ on Tuesday 27 June 2023.

JOE’S BUDDY LINE WORKSHOP

We have been invited to attend a Workshop with Joe’s Buddy Line on Thursday 13 July 2023 from 6.30pm to 8.30pm. This is the second workshop in the series and we will be looking at Coping Not Overwhelmed, this will support parents to help their children/our students to help manage their workloads and pressures of exams, tests, everyday life.

All parents are welcome, we look forward to seeing you.

A Silent Disco will be held on Friday 16 June 2023. The event commences at 19:00 and will finish at 20:30. This will be an exclusive event for St Teresa’s pupils in Year 7 and Year 8 with supervision provided by the pastoral team.
