4AV’s Assembly on Gender Inequality
4AV gave a very thoughtful assembly on Gender Inequality on Monday ahead of International Women’s Day. We learnt about challenging stereotypes and the boys highlighted their own examples of Inspirational Women including Ellen White, Rosa Parks, Saint Theresa and Serena Williams. The Assembly also featured Dorothy Hodgkin the British Chemist, who discovered the structure of Insulin and Penicillin. She is still the only British woman to have been awarded a Nobel Prize for Science; a topical reminder for British Science Week, which runs from 10th -18th March.
House Cup Winners
Congratulations to Morton House in the Lower Prep and Radford House in the Upper Prep for gaining the highest number of merits this week!
Book in a Box Competition
Thank you to all pupils who took part in the Book in a Box competition. Without exception, the entries were of an very high standard, which made it very difficult to choose the winners. There will be a small prize for all who took part as all the entries really were fantastic. Congratulations to the winners below. How many of the book titles can you guess?

Reception News
The Reception children have been using number lines this week in Maths. We used them to work out our addition calculations. Miss Hurl and Mrs Prothero were so impressed! Well done, children.
World Book Day Dressing Up
Last Friday, the whole school dressed up to celebrate World Book Day. We were very impressed with the wonderful array of inventive costumes and it was a thoroughly enjoyable day for everyone.
Congratulations to Edward W (6WL) who performed ‘La Chevaleresque’ by Burgmuller in Upper Prep assembly on Monday. This is a very tricky Grade 5 piece and Edward played it with a real sense of style.

Year 3’s World Book Day Activities
In Year 3 we had a fantastic World Book Day. We enjoyed a range of live lessons, learning about book genres and how to put a twist on a well-known story. We also participated in a live draw-along, the big footy-booky quiz and finished the day with a book café.
Nursery News
This week some of the Nursery children went on a walk around the school grounds looking for the first signs of Spring. The children used all their senses and were excited to see the seasonal changes taking place. In line with the topic of Spring, they decorated some flowers for our Mother’s Day event, using glitter, tissue paper, sequins and buttons. In the Nursery garden, the children had great fun making lots of bubbles and chasing after them. The sensory play this week consisted of lots of coloured spaghetti in our tuff tray; the children loved using the tweezers and scissors with it.
Year 2 English Lessons
For the last two weeks, Year 2 pupils have been reading James and the Giant Peach and learning about Roald Dahl to prepare for our upcoming trip to the Roald Dahl Museum. On Thursday, the children enjoyed making story maps of the main events in the story.
Our U8s, U9s, U10s and U11s rugby teams performed superbly well at the Surrey rugby festivals last Friday and Saturday. A strong defence was evident across all four Cranmore teams and certainly helped the U9s and U11s go undefeated in their respective festivals.
The U11 hockey team participated in the IAPs hockey regionals last week. The team went undefeated in their pool, beating RGS Guildford 3-0, St Hugh's School 3-0 and drawing with Vinehall School. Unfortunately, Cranmore lost 1-0 in the quarter final against Highfield School. This week hockey matches have also taken place against Feltonfleet, Homefield and Belmont School.
Our Cross Country Squad (U9s U11s) performed brilliantly at St Catherine's. Several schools competed in each year category with Cranmore coming 2nd in both the U10s and U11s and winning the U9s. Congratulations to Arlo W who won the U9s race and well done to all our runners.

Thought for the week:
How does Jesus speak to you?
A Prayer for Lent
Dear Lord, Without You I can do nothing. By Your Spirit help me to know what is right and to be eager in doing Your will. Teach me to find new life through penance. Keep me from sin, and help me live by Your commandment of love. God of love, bring me back to You. Send Your Spirit to make me strong in faith and active in good works. Amen.
Message Of His Holiness Pope Francis For Lent 2023
Dear brothers and sisters, may the Holy Spirit inspire and sustain us this Lent in our ascent with Jesus, so that we may experience his divine splendour and thus, confirmed in faith, persevere in our journey together with him, glory of his people and light of the nations.
Let us Pray: Our Father
Hail Mary
1 minute silence
“We need to listen to Jesus. Lent is a time of grace to the extent that we listen to him as he speaks to us.”
Pope Francis
In the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
