Admission Requirements Academic Requirement: A master’s degree with a superior level of academic accomplishment and a substantial foundation in biblical studies, theological studies, and the practice of ministry is required for admission into the D.Min. program. A Master of Divinity degree with at least a 3.0 average based on a 4.0 scale fulfills this requirement. Other graduate degrees providing this basic foundation for the practice of ministry and doctoral level study may be considered. If you hold a graduate theological degree other than a Master of Divinity, you should contact the admissions office for an assessment prior to making an application.Â
Ministry Requirement: Admission to the D.Min. program requires three years of substantial ministry experience subsequent to the first graduate theological degree. This need not be paid experience nor does it need to be work in a church setting. Substantial volunteer work and work done in social service and health care agencies may be considered as an exception to admission standards. Limited Residency Format
Building upon its long standing service and relationship with the United Methodist Church, Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School has developed this Doctor of Ministry concentration to meet the needs of Wesleyan and Methodist clergy who desire to learn more about Wesleyan/ Methodist history, theology, and spirituality.
The Doctor of Ministry requires the satisfactory completion of nine courses. Of the nine courses, three are required:
The Doctor of Ministry program is designed with practicing ministers in mind.
In addition to the core requirements in Transformative Leadership, the concentration requires a minimum of three Wesleyan/ Methodist Studies courses and writing a thesis in the area of Wesleyan/Methodist Studies.
Methodist Scholars The courses will be taught by Dr. John R. Tyson, as well as other leading national figures in the area of Wesleyan and Methodist Studies. Among the guest adjuncts who have agreed to join Dr. Tyson in offering these courses are Dr. Richard Heitzenrater (Duke University Divinity School), Dr. Elaine Heath (Perkins School of Theology, SMU), Dr. Christopher Evans (Boston University School of Theology), Dr. John Wigger (University of Missouri ), Dr. Jennifer Woodruff Tait (United Theological Seminary), and Dr. Tom Albin (Dean of the Upper Room).
• INT 701 Discerning the Context for Ministry in the 21st Century • INT 702 Practicing Transformative Leadership in the CRCDS Tradition • INT 703 The Prophetic Tradition Then and Now Students are then required to take two of the following additional courses offered: • INT 704 The Global Economy: Theological & Biblical Perspectives on Wealth and Poverty • INT 705 Gender Analysis for Transformative Leadership • INT 706 Doing Racial Justice: Theological and Strategic Resources • INT 707 Theological Practices of Political Advocacy, Community Organizing, and Systems Analysis • INT 708 Theological Practices of Political Advocacy, Community Transformative Leadership in African American Communities • INT 711: Thesis Seminar The other four courses to be completed are fulfilled by three courses in Methodist/Wesleyan studies and the actual writing of the thesis.

Much of your work will be completed at home in advance of and following residency periods on campus. Courses are taught in an intensive format during the first two weeks of January and June, with each course including the following three elements: 1 Readings and responses completed before the course is taught 2 Class time in residency on campus 3 A final course project following residency Requirements for the Doctor of Ministry degree can usually be met within three years of enrollment. The degree requires the completion of eight courses with residencies. These courses are normally completed over the first two years of the program, followed by a third year devoted to a final mentored course resulting in a written thesis. Students may extend the program requirements over a longer time period, provided all requirements are met within six years of enrollment.
