Mobile Communications Handbook Third Edition Edited by

Jerry D. Gibson University of California, Santa Barbara, USA

Praise for the Previous Edition: " … boasts an international list of contributors from industry and academic research centers. . . Serving as a dictionary, encyclopedia, and reference work containing many bibliographic references, this volume stands out as a major tool because it can accompany textbooks and other resources or easily stand on its own as an authoritative work. . . This title should be available in at least one format in all academic libraries and large public libraries." —Julie Gelfand, University of California Irvine Science Library

In the decade since the last edition of the Mobile Communications Handbook was published, there has been a deluge of new technologies and services in wireless mobile communications. In 1999, the Committee for Wireless LANs released the IEEE 802.11, a standard for the 5 GHz UNI band, which was followed by the release of the 802.11 g standard for the 2.4 GHz band in 2003. Since then, there has been a growing number of wireless IEEE 802.11 standards, including the IEEE 802.11a,b,c,d,e,f,g,h,l,n,r,s,p,u,v,k,t, and w. There has also been the establishment of the much higher speed broadband standards as encompassed by IEEE 802.16 which includes, in particular, IEEE 802.16e (dubbed WiMAX) and by a similar technology from Korea called WiBro. The standards connected with IEEE 802.16 have also begun to expand rapidly. In addition to these longer-range wireless standards, very short-distance wireless connectivity, such as Bluetooth and several ultrawideband (UWB) technologies are flourishing for use with earphones and computer peripherals. Other important developments in mobile communications since 1999 are the development of standards for wireless mesh networks, mobile ad hoc networks, and tandem connections of digital cellular, IEEE 802.11, and IEEE 8902.16 networks. These networks are being developed, deployed, and refined at a rapid pace. In the area of digital cellular, third and fourth generation systems have been proposed and redesigned, and third generation systems have been implemented. Finally, the use of video as a driving application for handheld devices has emerged. Streaming video to wireless handhelds is now common. Work is well underway to allow handhelds to capture video and send the video over the variety of wireless networks to other users. All of these developments are explored in Mobile Communications Handbook, Third Edition. With 80 percent new material, this volume brings readers up to date on the quantum leaps made in this technology since the last edition was published in 1999.

About the Editor: Jerry D. Gibson is a professor of electrical and computer engineering at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Currently, he serves on the Steering Committee for the Wireless Communications and Networking Conference and on the Editorial Board of the Hindawi Open Access journal Advances in Multimedia. He is an IEEE Communications Society Distinguished Lecturer for 2007-2008 and is a member of the IEEE Awards Committee. Radiation Effects in Semiconductors

Microcontrollers Fundamentals and Applications with PIC

Edited by

Fernando E. ValdesPerez

Krzysztof Iniewski

Universidad de Oriente, Santiago de Cuba, Cuba

CMOS Emerging Technologies, Inc., Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

Space applications, nuclear physics, military operations, medical imaging, and especially electronics (modern silicon processing) are obvious fields in which radiation damage can have serious consequences, including the degradation of MOS devices and circuits. Zeroing in on vital aspects of this broad and complex topic, Radiation Effects in Semiconductors addresses the ever-growing need for a clear understanding of radiation effects on semiconductor devices and circuits to combat any potential damage it can cause. This book analyzes the radiation problem, focusing on the most important aspects required for comprehending the degrading effects observed in semiconductor devices, circuits, and systems when they are irradiated. It explores how radiation interacts with solid materials and provides a detailed analysis of three ways this occurs: Photoelectric effect, Compton effect, and creation of electron-positron pairs. The book explains that the probability of these three effects occurring depends on the energy of the incident photon and the atomic number of the target and discusses the effects that photons can have on matter in terms of ionization effects and nuclear displacement. Renowned radiation authority Lawrence T. Clark provides a chapter on Radiation Hardened by Design SRAM Strategies for TID and SEE Mitigation. Aimed at post-graduate researchers, semiconductor engineers, and nuclear and space engineers with some electronics background, this carefully constructed reference explains how ionizing radiation is creating damage in semiconducting devices and circuits and systems—and how that damage can be avoided in areas such as military/space missions, nuclear applications, plasma damage, and X-ray-based techniques. It features top-notch international experts in industry and academia who address emerging detector technologies, circuit design techniques, new materials, and innovative system approaches. This book is a must-read for anyone serious about understanding radiation effects in the electronics industry.

A Mach–Zehnder Approach

Fourier Modal Method and Its Applications in Computational Nanophotonics

Gregory R. Toker

Hwi Kim

Holographic Interferometry

Technion, Israel Institute of Technology

"... covers many techniques and procedures of in-line holographic interferometry. ... emphasizes experimental procedures and solving problems in gas dynamics research and fluid dynamics. The author has considered minor details like influence of mechanical shutter vibrations on the computed phases. ... a good reference book." — Rajpal Singh Sirohi, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, Terre Haute, Indiana, USA

Transparent in the visible range, phase objects can be studied in the optical range using holographic interferometry. Typically, the holograms are recorded on high-resolving-power holographic photo materials, but a lower spatial resolution is sufficient for successful research in many scientific applications. Holographic Interferometry: A Mach–Zehnder Approach offers practical guidance to research scientists and engineers using Mach–Zehnder holographic interferometry methods to study phase objects in the laboratory. The Mach–Zehnder approach allows the use of standard photographic film and electronic CCD/CMOS sensors with low resolving power, making it a simpler and more affordable option for testing many types of phase objects. This book demonstrates how to use standard photographic film for the optical recording and reconstruction of Mach–Zehnder holograms. It also illustrates techniques for using CCD/CMOS cameras to digitally record Mach–Zehnder holograms/interferograms of transparent objects. Bringing together original research and information scattered throughout existing literature, this book focuses on the holographic reference beam and shearing interferometry methods. In particular, it looks at how these methods and optical schemes can be directly applied to testing aerodynamic flows, as well as to plasmas, shocks, and waves in noncoherent laser–matter interactions. Numerous reconstructed and classic interferograms, deflectograms, and Schlierengrams illustrate the material, helping readers develop and design their own optical scheme and choose applicable details to apply the approach. Describing methods in a mathematically simple and accessible way, the book is also suitable for graduate students in the fields of aerospace engineering and optics, as well as those in laser, thermal, and plasma physics.

Real-Time Digital Signal Processing from MATLAB® to C with the TMS320C6x DSPs

Wide-Band Slow-Wave Systems

Second Edition Thad B. Welch, Cameron H.G. Wright, and Michael G. Morrow From the Foreword: “…There are many good textbooks today to teach digital signal processing, but most of them are content to teach the theory, and perhaps some MATLAB® simulations. This book has taken a bold step forward. It not only presents the theory, it reinforces it with simulations, and then it shows us how to actually use the results in real-time applications. …This last step is not a trivial step, and that is why so many books, and courses, present only theory and simulations. With the combined expertise of the three authors of this text… the reader can step into the real-time world of applications with a text that presents an accessible path… .” — Delores M. Etter, Texas Instruments Distinguished Chair in Electrical Engineering and Executive Director, Caruth Institute for Engineering Education, Southern Methodist University, Dallas, Texas, USA

Mastering practical application of real-time digital signal processing (DSP) remains one of the most challenging and time-consuming pursuits in the field. Industrial Communication Systems Instrument Engineers' Handbook Volume 3, Process Software and Digital Networks, Fourth Edition Edited by

Béla G. Lipták Liptak Associates, Stamford, Connecticut, USA

Halit Eren Curtin University of Technology, Bentley, Australia

Instrument Engineers' Handbook: Volume 3, Process Software and Digital Networks, Fourth Edition is the latest addition to an enduring collection that industrial automation (AT) professionals often refer to as the "bible". First published in 1970, the entire handbook is composed of standalone volumes that cover the measurement (Volume 1), control (Volume 2) and software (Volume 3) aspects of automation. This fourth edition of the third volume provides a review of control software packages used in plant optimization, control, maintenance, and safety. Assessing the rapid evolution of automation and optimization in control systems used in all types of industrial plants, this book details the wired/wireless communications and software used. This includes applications for intelligent instruments, enhanced networks, internet use, virtual private networks, and integration of control systems with the main networks used by management, all of which operate in a linked global environment. Topics covered include: • Advances in new displays • Software and networks that help monitor, control, and optimize industrial processes • Strategies to counteract changes in market conditions and energy and raw material costs • Techniques to fortify the safety of plant operations and the security of digital communications systems This volume explores why the holistic approach to integrating process and enterprise networks is convenient and efficient. It shows how firewalls must separate the business (IT) and the operation (automation technology, or AT) domains to guarantee the safe function of all industrial plants. Reinforcing the fact that all industrial control systems are, in general, critically interdependent, this handbook provides a wide range of software application examples from a host of industries.

Intelligent Diagnosis and Prognosis of Industrial Networked Systems Chee Khiang Pang, Frank L. Lewis, Tong Heng Lee, and Zhao Yang Dong In an era of intense competition where plantoperating efficiencies must be maximized, downtime due to machinery failure has become more costly. To cut operating costs and increase revenues, industries have an urgent need to predict fault progression and the remaining lifespan of industrial machines, processes, and systems. Intelligent Diagnosis and Prognosis of Industrial Networked Systems proposes linear mathematical tool sets that can be applied to realistic engineering systems. The book offers an overview of the fundamentals of vectors, matrices, and linear systems theory required for intelligent diagnosis and prognosis of industrial networked systems. Building on this theory, it then develops automated mathematical machineries and formal decision software tools for real-world applications. The book includes portable tool sets for many industrial applications, including: • Forecasting machine tool wear in industrial cutting machines • Reduction of sensors and features for industrial Fault Detection and Isolation (FDI) • Identification of critical resonant modes in mechatronic systems for system design of R&D • Probabilistic small-signal stability in large-scale interconnected power systems • Discrete event command and control for military applications The book also proposes future directions for intelligent diagnosis and prognosis in energy-efficient manufacturing, life cycle assessment, and systems of systems architecture. Written in a concise and accessible style, it presents tools that are mathematically rigorous but not complex. Bridging academia, research, and industry, this reference supplies the know-how for engineers and managers making decisions about equipment maintenance, as well as researchers and students in the field.

General & Industry Applications New!

Fundamentals of Electrical Engineering Charles A. Gross and Thaddeus Roppel Auburn University, Alabama, USA

Real-world engineering problems are rarely, if ever, neatly divided into mechanical, electrical, chemical, civil, and other categories. For instance, civil engineers must contend with commercial electrical service and lighting design issues. Mechanical engineers have to deal with motors in HVAC applications, and chemical engineers are forced to handle problems involving process control. Engineers from all disciplines eventually encounter computer and electronic controls and instrumentation, which require at least a basic knowledge of electrical and other engineering specialties, as well as associated economics, and environmental, political, and social issues. Co-authored by Charles Gross—one of the most wellknown and respected professors in the field of electric machines and power engineering—and his worldrenowned colleague Thad Roppel, Fundamentals of Electrical Engineering provides an overview of the field for engineering professionals and students whose specialization lies in areas other than electrical. Simple and easy to use, yet more than sufficient in rigor and coverage of fundamental concepts, this resource teaches EE fundamentals but omits the typical analytical methods that hold little relevance for the audience. The authors provide many examples to illustrate concepts, as well as homework problems to help readers understand and apply presented material. In many cases, courses for non-electrical engineers, or non-EEs, have presented watered-down classical EE material, resulting in unpopular courses that students dislike and senior faculty members understandingly avoid teaching. To remedy this situation—and create more well-rounded practitioners—the authors focus on the true EE needs of non-EEs, as determined through their own teaching experience, as well as significant input from non-EE faculty. The book provides several important contemporary interdisciplinary examples to support this approach. The result is a fullcolor modern narrative that bridges the various EE and non-EE curricula and provides a truly relevant course that students and faculty can both enjoy.

Communication Systems Modelling and Simulation using MATLAB® and Simulink® K. C. Raveendranathan Government Engineering College, Barton Hill, Thiruvanathapuram, India

Communication Systems Modelling and Simulation using MATLAB® and Simulink® is probably the first book that employs the technique of simulation experiments as a means of reinforcing the basic concepts of communication theory. Undergraduate students are generally exposed to a mathematically rigorous treatment of communications theory but seldom have the benefit of a practical-orientated approach employing modelling and simulation for a thorough assimilation of the subject. This book can supplement any standard textbook to cover this significant lacuna in the existing learning methodology. Using MATLAB for that purpose, the book’s introductory chapters provide an overview of computer simulation and MATLAB programming concepts. Thereafter, communications concepts are presented in the traditional manner and followed with appropriate simulations in MATLAB/Simulink. Relevant MATLAB source code is given whenever it is used to illustrate a point. All the source code given in the text has been tested on MATLAB kernel version 7.10 (Release R2010a) and is provided in the accompanying CD-ROM.
