The role was Katerina in Heartbreak High, a gritty series about a tough, multi-racial urban high school. Initially a twelve week spot, her character proved so popular, the role was extended, ultimately for three years. Ada has worked steadily ever since on shows such as Police Rescue and Breakers, made appearances in Beastmaster and Pizza, and taken on a small, but significant, role as the White Rabbit Girl, Dujour, in The Matrix. Along the way, the striking and vivacious actor has been nominated for three gold and two silver Logies. “I never thought I’d make a career out of acting,” Ada explains frankly, still sounding surprised at the thought. “I was at school, I went for an audition, it was for twelve weeks and I happened to get it. I thought, ‘I’ll do the twelve weeks and I’ll go back and do my HSC and I’ll go to uni and that will be the end of it’. And twenty years later I’m still doing it...it just happened this way. I’m really lucky. I know there are a lot of people out there who would love to be an actor and have studied...I’m acting full time, I’m practising my craft every day, so I do feel very blessed.” Ada’s passion for her work is one of the reasons she cites for juggling the demands of motherhood and paid

Hypnobirthing For most of their lives, women have been subjected to negative, horror birthing stories, which conditions them to believe that excruciating pain is associated with birth. This fear tenses the body to the point it prohibits them from easily performing a normal physiological function. Vicki Hobbs of Phoenix Therapies Pregnancy Centre is a Certified Hypnobirthing Practitioner, and says “learning relaxation techniques using hypnobirthing gives your baby a calm, gentle and safe welcome”. Ms Hobbs says that by implementing these techniques women and their birthing partners can feel prepared and empowered to achieve that beautiful birthing experience.

With everything you need located in one place, The Baby Shower Shop makes hosting your baby shower both fun and easy. You can shop online with super-fast, express delivery Australia wide or visit their shop in Willetton. www.thebabyshowershop.com.au

id you know that at any given time, up to 30 per cent of a baby’s blood is outside of its body whilst it is in the womb? During fetal circulation the

baby’s blood moves from the baby, through the umbilical cord, through the placenta and back again. There is absolutely no mixing of Baby’s blood with Mum’s blood. When babies are born, anywhere from 50 to 100 mls of Baby’s blood still resides in the cord and placenta. If the umbilical cord is cut immediately after birth, the baby is deprived of this blood. In 2012, the World Health Organisation published a recommendation stating that unless a baby needs resuscitation, the umbilical cord should remain unclamped for a minimum of one minute and the ‘optimal timing to clamp the umbilical cord for all infants regardless of gestational age or fetal weight is when the circulation in the cord has ceased, and the cord is flat and pulseless (approximately three minutes)’. What exactly is ‘Delayed or Optimal Cord Clamping’? What are the benefits of Optimal Cord Clamping?

Real Life From frustration to diagnosis: what’s it really like living with a child with Autism? Beth Johnston sat down with the Major family to find out.

manda Major knew something wasn’t right. When her beautiful, smiley little boy started talking less and instead communicating with grunts, she

became concerned. After a normal, easy pregnancy, Amanda and husband, Marty, were delighted when Max William was born on July 1, 2009. Their journey into parenthood began relatively smoothly, with Max, a smiley, happy baby and reaching all his milestones at the normal times. It was when Max reached about 15 to 16 months of age that things began to change. Previously he had been saying words such as Mummy, Daddy and hello, but Amanda says

Can women really have it all? By CelebrityBabyScoop.com

CelebrityBabyScoop.com finds out from celebrity mums whether they can enjoy a high-flying career while also being a hands-on mum.

N

ew mum Drew Barrymore was recently asked how she does it all, and replied, “I can’t and I don’t”. Celebrity Baby Scoop asked some favourite

celebrity mums on the concept of having it all. Is it attainable or an illusion? When speaking with Katie Couric at BlogHer in New York City last summer, the proud mum said, “My daughters are my best accomplishment”. At the conference, the successful broadcast journalist went on to say that women can have it all…with the help of many people, including nannies, and so on.
