Nikita

She is vision of Caribbean beauty and her voice will take you on an escape, to a world of soul, expression and richness that grips her every fibre as a Caribbean woman! Her sound is eclectic, with Caribbean rhythm at its base and fused with sounds of other genres, ultimately enveloping your ears with a sound that croons and soothes your soul. As destiny would have it, Nikita was born into a family of great singers and song competition winners, names synonymous with music in Barbados. It is no wonder that from age 4, she dominated the stage! That first performance at her pre-school graduation led to performances at school, church and family gatherings creating the foundation that has ultimately resulted in Nikita performing on almost every major stage in Barbados and dominating competitions along her path! In 2007, Nikita shared the stage with the Queen of Soul herself, Patti Labelle, at the Hilton Barbados; an opportunity that is revered by singers across the globe! Nikita has established a deep-seated presence in the hearts of Barbadians. For the last five years has serenaded tourists to the islands’ shores as the guest singer at the 5 star hotel, The Sandy Lane Hotel Barbados, known as the premier address of the region, hosting royalty, celebrities and the rich with the likes of Queen Elizabeth II, Oprah Winfrey and Tiger Woods. She has since released hits for the Crop Over season like “Wine Gyal” and everyone's favourite “Tequila". This year she continuously blazed the stage with the song "Bun It Up" which landed her a spot as the lone female in the Soca Royale competition and you can catch her on tour with Barbados's leading saxophonist Arturo Tappin. As the newly crowned "Breakout Artist of The Year", Nikita is intent on sharing her Barbadian voice and expression with the rest of world, warming hearts, provoking smiles and being the messenger of inspiration for her listeners. LENE HALL (BORN SHERRYLENE HALL) is from the island of Barbados and has been a staple for all of the top fashion houses and cosmetic companies since the start of her career.

Lene Hall

Getting her early start on the island, she modeled throughout highschool, but it was only when a NY agent was scouting in Barbados, and he approached Lene at work and encouraged her to come to New York and meet with agencies that she would have her chance on the international fashion stage. Things moved very quickly for Lene and on her first interview with an agency, she was signed on the spot and sent directly for her first casting at "Prescriptive by Estée Lauder." Remarkably, she landed the contract, becoming the face of Prescriptive for the next year. Lene has walked the runway for fashion weeks in New York, London, Paris, Milan, Jamaica and South Africa for notable designers such as Ralph Lauren, Ralph Rucci, Naeem Khan, B Michaels, Ellen Tracey, and numerous European couture houses. In addition to Esteé Lauder, she has been the face of major campaigns for Revlon, Oil of Olay, Noxzema, Lubriderm, Kohler, Vaniqua, and Lafayette 148. Lene is one of a rare group of top models that has been signed to five major cosmetic campaigns Hall has been photographed for Harper's Bazaar, Spanish Vogue, Elle, Oprah, Marie Claire, and Essence. She is the cover model of legendary makeup artist Sam Fine's book " Fine Beauty."

Sharon Sargeant

Talent, intelligence and confidence are key traits of any good queen, and Sharon Sargeant, the woman who has moulded many a queen, is royalty in her own right. The local franchise owner of Barbados Talented Teens (BTT) said she has been in the pageantry business for two decades. To her, pageantry struts far beyond walking on a stage and wearing a pretty dress – it’s filled with life and career opportunities and self-development. In the last ten years, she chaperoned local girls to regional shows in hopes of capturing coveted crowns. She got a taste of the industry when designer Clayton Maynard asked her to assist a young lady he had designed for in the Miss Bikini Barbados competition many moons ago and the rest, as they say, is history.

American Photo magazine declared Hall one of the top 10 up-and-coming models to watch when she first came onto the scene. She has worked with some of the greatest names in photography - from Herb Ritz, Bruce Weber and Keith Major just to name a few. Hall gives freely of her time to charities to help in their cause to raise funds, in Barbados and internationally, including Jamaica and Africa. She also took part in the NY fashion industry's charity event for the victims of September 11. Her philosophy is that she has received so much that one should pass it on to those who have not had the opportunities she has been afforded in life. She is currently under contract with Major Model Management in NYC and Miami and by Fusion Model Management in Cape Town.

TRACEY ARCHER, having left Harrison College to pursue studies at BCC in 1986, was approached by Vic Fernandes and Aubrey Choy of Jade Enterprises to enter The Miss Barbados Universe contest in which she placed 2nd runner up. Subsequent to this she represented Barbados in the Miss Caribbean contest in St. Croix where she placed first runner up to Miss St. Croix. She also won the title of Miss Universal Bikini in 1986. In 1987, Tracey left Barbados to attend the Lucie Clayton Finishing School in London in order to pursue a modelling career, as a result of which she did some runway shows and hair magazines. Towards the end of the 8 years in London, she was approached by a record Executive, Peter Thomas, to be part of a British Girls Pop group and left London for New York where she was signed to Epic records. The group disbanded after 1 year and she worked with Peter Thomas out of Def jam Records on the first Hip Hop conference called “How Can I be Down” in South Beach, Miami. After 3 years, she moved to South Beach to manage Peter Thomas’s Southern style restaurant called “Savannah” which was the only 5 star black owned restaurant on South Beach. Having completed this phase of her life, Tracey then pursued studies at the Florida College of Natural Health where she achieved 2 degrees, one in Sports Massage Therapy and the second in Paramedical Skin care and now holds the post of Spa Manager at Sandy Lane. As to her local modelling and runway successes in the print and tv media and runway, these include: Print-1987 Barbados postcards and posters , St. Lucia Bounty Rum calendar, Mount Gay Rum billboards, Harrisons and Cave Shepherds print ads, 2008 launch of Banks Beer print ads in New York for the side of buses, telephone booths and subways and the Banks Beer Calendar girl 2008, First Caribbean bus shelter ads and Cassandra Mottley swimwear campaign. TV- Launching of GSM for Cable and Wireless, the swimwear collection by Danskin for ESPN, Clico, Cave Shepherd and Harrisons and Piton Beer. Runway- Simon Foster, Pauline Bellamy, Gatsby, Caribbean Fashion Week etc.

The winner of Miss Universe Barbados 2016 will be representing Barbados at the Miss Universe 2017 pageant. In addition to the title and the right to represent us at the Miss Universe pageant, this year the winner will also be wearing a new crown. The “Broken Trident” crown, unveiled on August 28, 2016 via social media, will be on display from September 12th at The Royal Shop, the official jewellers of the Miss Universe Barbados franchise. With an estimated value of BDS$10,000, the one of a kind jewel encrusted piece was designed and produced by world renowned bespoke jewellers – God Diamonds in Thailand. The crown contains pearls, blue and yellow sapphires, and Swarovski crystals. In designing the crown, God Diamonds stated that “we wanted to create something distinctly unique to Barbados.” Borrowing from elements of our national flag, the crown for Miss Universe Barbados features a Broken trident found at the top and centre of the crown, whilst blue sapphires are used to represent the sea and sky of Barbados. The gold in our nation’s flag is depicted by the yellow sapphire that represents the sand of the island’s beaches. The use of pearl and other visual elements was inspired by the sea and marine life which is woven into the tapestry of life and culture in Barbados.
