Families can choose from a wide array of events taking place across the East Riding, with a comprehensive list available on the Active East

Riding website.

Among the free activities are the popular “Have a Field Day” events in Hornsea and Withernsea, where families can enjoy a day of outdoor fun, as well as family yoga sessions to suit all levels of ability.

For Lego fans, the Treasure House in Beverley will be hosting Lego-building sessions alongside the fantastic Brick

Journeys exhibition currently on show at Beverley Art Gallery.

Paid experiences include Yorkshire Day celebrations at Sewerby Hall and Gardens, while the stars of Megaslam Wrestling will be laying the smack down at Bridlington Spa. East Riding Libraries will also be hosting storytelling and craft sessions as part of the Children’s Festival of Words.

As part of the Help for Households campaign, the government-led Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme allows children and young people receiving benefit-related free school meals, the HAF programme an array of engaging activities along with a free hot or cold meal for participants.

To explore all the HAF activities available this summer and make bookings, please visit the Holiday Activities and Food section of the Active East Riding website. Councillor Victoria Aitken, portfolio holder for children, families and education, said:

“As any parent of school-age children knows, keeping the kids entertained all summer is not easy, especially when days out can be so expensive.

“We hope this year’s School’s Out and Holiday Activities and Food programmes will be a help for families this summer, offering many exciting opportunities for children to stay active and have fun, without costing the earth.”

The council’s Help for Households campaign is dedicated to supporting East Riding residents who need financial aid during the cost of living crisis. To learn more about the help available, visit the Help for Households website.
