Local foodie plans to launch wild food business

A few editions ago, we introduced you to Angela Long from Gilberdyke who appeared on BBC’s MasterChef

Angela is now setting up an exciting business making wild food more accessible to families. Wild Food By Angela launched at the start of August and is already attracting many local residents.

Angela has been cooking since she was a child, but really got more passionate when she had children of her own. She wanted to make sure they had the best start to life and had a varied diet. Angela then went on to gain knowledge and confidence in foraging and involved her children in cooking, gathering only what she was sure was safe for them. Our Goole had a chat with Angela to find out more about the upcoming business venture and what people can expect.

How did the idea come about?

After my time on MasterChef lots of people said that they had gained interest in foraging and natural remedies but had little to no knowledge and didn’t feel confident getting started. So I had the idea to make some packs that were more accessible and user friendly. They contained guides to foraging for tea for example.

What can people expect?

Basically a one-stop-stop for taking your family out and safely creating something.

What are you hoping people will get out of it?

My premise is that I focus on plants with no toxicity so I reduce risk and also plants that grow in all terrains. Think nettles, dandelions etc. So everyone can access the benefits even if they don’t live near green spaces.

be the most challenging?

The challenge will be organising the manufacturing and daily running alongside my other commitments (currently I also run wild-food classes for local schools, clubs and forest organisations).

What are you most looking forward to?

I’m most looking forward to seeing the foraging life become more accessible and wildly implemented. After lockdown, I think people have a new-found appreciation for being out in nature and that should be celebrated.
