This provides emergency financial support to those unable to meet essential living costs, such as energy bills or food. NYLAF can also make awards in kind, such as supplying basic necessities or household goods such as a fridge.

Warm & Well North Yorkshire

Warm & Well in North Yorkshire raises awareness of the impact of cold homes on our health and wellbeing, offers practical solutions to reduce fuel poverty, and supports people and communities to stay warm and well in their homes. People can also apply for hardship funding, or get help with minor repairs to make their homes warmer under this scheme.

Selby Community Fridge

A simple solution to wasting less and saving more. Providing free fresh food for all, they’re open Mondays 12-5pm, Wednesdays 3-6pm and Fridays 12-5pm at Community House on Portholme Road. Anone can donate, collect or exchange surplus perishable food. They aim to reduce food waste and provide a space where all locals can share food, support, skills and recipes.

Cost-of-living payments

The government has announced when further cost of living payments will be made between spring 2023 and spring 2024. These payments are:

• Up to £900 for people on an eligible low income benefit

• £300 for pensioner households

• £150 for people on an eligible disability benefit

Further guidance will be published when more details have been announced, including the qualifying dates.

If you’re eligible, you’ll be paid automatically in the same way you usually get your benefit or tax credits.
