School is officially starting back, which means it is time to start thinking about packing lunch boxes every morning. It can be easy to fall into a rut fairly quickly and begin packing the same few meals day after day. Who likes that? Trust me, it doesn’t have to be that way though. If you prepare ahead of time, and stick to the basics of a protein, a fruit, a vegetable, a carb, and a treat, you will have endless ways to switch up your children’s daily meals. Here are a few options for you and your family to try out.

These warm summer months in the south come with an added danger for our furry four-legged friends. Although fleas and ticks are a threat all year round, they are typically the most active during warmer months. Not only are these tiny little pests annoying, but they are dangerous for our pets. These nasty little things carry diseases that can not only harm your pet’s health, but your family’s as well. Ticks are a type of parasite that bite animals and people in order to feed on their blood. They then release diseases directly into the blood stream if the tick has been infected themselves. It should be noted that the most common tick-borne illness that affect dogs are Lyme disease, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, Ehrlichiosis, Anaplasmosis, Hepatozoonosis, Babesiosis, and Bartonellosis. These diseases can have serious health risk for dogs as well as serious health consequences for people too. What can you do to prevent these dirty insects from hurting your family? Make sure to buy proper flea and tick prevention all year round. There are so many different options to choose that will fit any of your family’s needs.

Budget Friendly Tight on cash? Check out the PetArmor Plus Flea & Tick Squeeze-On Treatment. It lasts your dog 30 days a treatment and is around $26 for a box of 3. Since a single box will last your dog for 3 months, that is less than $9 a month. You really can’t beat that price.

Fast Acting Did you wake up one morning and it seem like your dog got infested with fleas overnight? Then Frontline Plus Flea & Tick may be for you. In a study, it was revealed that Frontline Plus begins killing fleas and ticks only 4 hours after application. Within 12 hours, the dog was 100% pest free. It is a monthly treatment, and cost around $36 for 3 treatments.

Most Convenient Are you scared you will forget to administer the product every 30 days? We get it, life can get crazy sometimes. If this is the case for you, check out the Seresto flea and tick collar. The collar will last your pet 8 months. You just put it on them, and it will begin working its magic. It will kill existing fleas and ticks, as well as protect them for 8 full months. One collar is around $55. Our pets are a part of the family, so you want to make sure they are always protected. Trust me, you don’t want them bringing in fleas and ticks into your home. Fleas can hide just about anywhere and can be extremely hard to get rid of. Run out to the local pet store today and pick up some great flea and tick prevention. Your pets and family members will be extremely happy that you did. 11

It just warms your soul in all the right places. A great bottle of wine can really bring people together and is always a great go-to gift when attending a dinner party. That is why we reached out to some military spouses to find out what are their favorite wines to sip. Here is what they had to recommend.

Risata Moscato D'Asti “This wine is my absolute favorite to sip on when I am binge watching Netflix or have some friends over. It is sweet and doesn’t have a weird after taste like many wines do. Even if you aren’t a big wine drinker, give this one a shot. “ –Callie from Georgia

Dealing with Deployment by Alex Zapetis

It’s August and we are officially another month closer to the end of this deployment. I get so much joy out of crossing out each day that passes on my calendar, then flipping the page to a new month. It is hard to believe sometimes that I haven’t seen my husband since January. I miss him more than words could ever possibly begin to describe. I’ve been looking forward to August since he left. Since the very beginning, I decided that the month of August was to be spent on buying my husband welcome home gifts. I wanted to make sure I gave myself plenty of time to pick everything out and make sure every present is perfect. Also, everyone knows you can’t trust shipping estimates! Who wants the added pressure of constantly tracking a package hoping it gets to your house before your spouse does? Order early to prevent that from happening! For the last few weeks, I have been thinking about his homecoming day and possible ways to make it as magical as possible for him. I already plan on making him some of his favorite foods, as well as making sure the fridge is filled with all of his favorite snacks. I would also love to decorate the whole entire house with signs, balloons, and streamers. If there is ever a time to go big, it’s after not seeing your husband after a long 9 months, right? Since we are getting closer and closer to our homecoming day, I feel like I am going crazy trying to make everything perfect. I’ve been trying to organize and clean everything, knowing good and well my children will just destroy it a thousand more times before he gets back. I’ve been buying so many different outfits for me and my children, because I want us to look perfect whenever he gets back. After all, the pictures of that day will last a lifetime. Even though it may seem like I’m adding a lot of stress to my plate, it is really helping make time go by a little bit faster. Staying busy always helps as I’ve learned multiple times on this deployment. If you are also almost to an end of a deployment, make sure you take the time to pamper yourself before your spouse gets home. Go out and get your nails or hair done. If you’ve been wanting a spray tan, go get a spray tan. Set aside a day to make yourself feel like a hundred bucks. This deployment has been hard on everyone, so you deserve to feel amazing on that homecoming day. You’ve earned it. Another month down guys, we got this! 27

502d Infantry Regiment Iraqi Freedom 1 This monument is to remember Command Sergeant Major Jerry L. Wilson from 502nd Infantry Regiment. CSM Jerry L. Wilson died in combat on November 23, 2003 serving during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Wilson was 45, and from Thomson, Georgia. Wilson was assigned to 1st Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade 101st Airborne Division. He lost his life when hostile forces attacked the vehicle in which he was riding in Mosul, Iraq. Operation Iraqi Freedom began on March 19 , 2003 by President George W. Bush. The President announced that this operation was aimed to rid Iraq of its dictator, Saddam Hussein. It was also used to get rid of Iraq’s ability to store and develop their deadly weapons. The 2003 invasion of Iraq was led by U.S. Army General Tommy Franks and went by the code-name “Operation Iraqi Freedom”.

Over 248,000 soldiers from the United States were deployed to Iraq at that time. Unfortunately, more than 4,412 honorable men and women lost their lives in this operation. Like CSM Jerry L. Wilson, soldiers were stationed here at Fort Campbell, KY when they gave the ultimate sacrifice. The 502nd was called to fight in 2003, and they deployed to Iraq. Colonel Joe Anderson's brigade was chosen to provide infantry support to the 3rd Infantry Division during the war. They returned home a year later having fought in the key battles of South Al Hillah, Mosul, Karbala, and Najaf. While deployed, it is said that the 502nd played a huge role in the rebuilding of Mosul, Iraq. CSM Jerry L. Wilson is a true American hero and he will never be forgotten. We thank him for his sacrifice, and may he rest in peace.
