Choose Suitable Protein Sequencing Methods for Your Project

Page 1

This infographic introduces three protein sequencing methods: Edman degradation, peptide mapping, and de novo protein sequencing. Edman degradation is one of the N-terminal amino acid sequence analysis methods for peptide chains or proteins sequencing. Peptide mapping analysis is an effective method to rapidly localize protein sequences and is a commonly used strategy in protein identification. De novo protein sequencing uses digested peptides that exhibit regular fragmentation in mass spectrometry to obtain amino acid information from the mass differences in regular mass spectral peak. This method can identify novel peptides, unsequenced organisms and antibody drugs.

The processes, advantages, and disadvantages of the three sequencing methods are compared. Two literatures containing the applications of these methods are also listed.
