What is

GET INVOLVED!

ENTER?

Want to be part of an exciting new festival? We want to hear your entrepreneurial ideas to showcase something great as part of ENTER Festival. Get in touch! See page 31 for details.

ENTER is a series of inspiring activities taking place in Nottingham throughout May – June 2015 which aim to highlight and encourage enterprising behaviour in young people. It’s a unique collection of events all about young people who are making things happen for themselves, their communities, their neighbourhoods, their city.

NOTTINGHAM IS A CITY THAT VALUES, ENCOURAGES, SUPPORTS AND PROMOTES ENTERPRISING BEHAVIOUR IN YOUNG PEOPLE Throughout May and June, many Nottingham-based organisations and their youth networks will be working together to bring a new festival to the city. A festival of making, doing and celebrating interesting, enterprising things created by young people.

The Creative Quarter Company has invited this wide network of people to work with, support and engage young people to shape the festival programme in 2015. By identifying common strands of activity, by finding ways for organisations to collaborate, by giving young people a platform – and uniting it all under the banner of a festival – together we can make Nottingham stand out as a place where young peoples’ talents shine; where their ideas are encouraged and supported. ENTER is a platform for young people to showcase their entrepreneurial ideas, learn more about enterprising behaviour across a variety of industries, meet people with similar interests and get worthwhile advice. - The Creative Quarter

MEET THE ENTER PARTNERS Join us to celebrate the start of ENTER 2015 with a chance to meet representatives from many of the organisations taking part in the festival. Come to the ENTER Fair on Friday 1st May, where you can find out about the range of support and activities available for young people in Nottingham. ENTER 2015 - 03

FRIDAY 1 May

University of Nottingham LAKESIDE ARTS CENTRE AND NOTTINGHAM NEW THEATRE PRESENT ‘A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM’. The Nottingham New Theatre is the only entirely student-run theatre in the country, staging an in-house production every week of term and a further ten throughout the year in an emerging site-specific external season. In this respect, New Theatre are unique, offering hundreds of roles both on-stage and off-stage.

A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM £12/£10 Friday: 7.30PM Saturday: 2.00PM & 7.30PM

Step into a world of glittering illusion as Lakeside Arts Centre and New Theatre reinvent William Shakespeare’s timeless romantic comedy: ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’. One of the most beautifully lyrical of the playwright’s creations, join Puck and enter into the forest to explore the realms of mischief and magic. Following the stories of star-crossed lovers, impish fairies and clumsy thespians, the fusion of the earthly and the enchanted ultimately results in disastrous consequences. Lakeside’s hilarious and aesthetically entrancing revival of this cherished play is accessible and entertaining for all audiences, making it a production not to be missed.

Full Effect THE FULL EFFECT PROJECT AIMS TO IMPROVE OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOUNG PEOPLE IN ST ANN’S, DEVELOP YOUNG LEADERS TO BE POSITIVE ROLE MODELS, RAISE ASPIRATIONS AND REDUCE YOUTH VIOLENCE. Funded through the Royal Foundation and delivered through partnership between Epic Partners and the Community Recording Studio, Full Effect delivers projects to engage children and young people to develop skills and provide positive pathways to grow as individuals. The first project delivered by Full Effect is a powerful, thought-provoking film called Guillemot. This project worked with fifteen local young people, in conjunction with Londonbased Latimer Productions, to develop skills around acting, film-making and production. The storyline of the film was developed by the group as a way of raising awareness of issues that young people face in St. Ann’s. The film is innovative and unique with young first-time actors working by improvisation and without script.

On Sunday the 24th May, Full Effect will offer a showcase of music and lyric writing workshops; a taster of activities that happen on a daily basis at the Community Recording Studio in St. Ann’s. The Arts are a central theme of the Full Effect programme and the second year of funding will develop further innovative opportunities to engage and inspire.

Young Creative Awards THE YOUNG CREATIVE AWARDS RECOGNISE NOTTINGHAM’S YOUNG CREATIVE TALENT AGED 13 - 24. THE THEME FOR 2015 IS ‘MADE IN NOTTINGHAM’. The Young Creative Awards were launched in 2009 to attract up-and-coming creative talent in the city and put young people in Nottingham on the creative map. The awards are open to young people aged between 13 - 24 who are asked to submit a piece of creative work based around this year’s theme, ‘Made in Nottingham’. Entries are judged in the spring and celebrated at an awards ceremony on Friday 15th May at the Nottingham Playhouse.

The awards, sponsored by a range of creative businesses and organisations in Nottingham, offer the opportunity to take part in a citywide creative competition, and win a mixture of cash and other prizes. This could include mentoring opportunities and work experience, which will enable young people to further their creative industry careers and have their work displayed in various exhibitions around the city. “We know that Nottingham has a wealth of young creative talent and we want to showcase and support young people to achieve their goals and aspirations whilst developing the skills that will make Nottingham a world-class creative hub.”

GET UP, STAND UP! New Art Exchange and the National Centre for Citizenship and the Law (NCCL) at The Galleries of Justice Museum have worked together with young people across Nottingham to create an exciting new project. Funded by Arts Council England, Get Up Stand Up! is a site specific, digital audio-visual installation and tour (for groups of 20 or more) at the award-winning Galleries of Justice Museum. Using digital technologies, the tour articulates and explores representations and interpretations of global civil rights in unexpected ways, as visitors move through the cool, dark corridors submerged in the depths and dungeons of the venue. It looks at the themes of migration, oppression, international civil rights and the justice system. New Art Exchange and its team of artists, theatre makers, musicians and digital artists have been working with schools and youth groups, inspiring them to create music, stories, digital and visual art work.

Get Up, Stand Up! viewings are for groups of 20 or more by appointment only. Please call Galleries of Justice on 0115 9939811 to book your visit.

This contemporary art installation challenges visitors to look at the museum space in a new light. It offers a theatrical and poetic journey, responding to the ideas of civil rights pioneers who have challenged oppressive regimes. ENTER 2015 - 26
