18oz Economy Jute Lined Canvas Rug

Only store when completely dry. Canvas contains cotton and any moisture in the fabric can cause mildew and deteriorate the canvas during storage.

Proofed ripstop canvas (95% cotton/5% polyester). Leather front strap, web leg straps, shoulder gussets, rear darts and tail flap. Includes shoulder gussets, leg straps and tail flap.

Never scrub the canvas - to remove dirt use a damp cloth or brush any dry dirt off. Do not use soaps, detergents or other liquid cleaners. Remove any mildew as it appears, and allow the rug plenty of sun exposure afterwards. No Canvas rug is 100% waterproof – they are designed to repel showers & light rain. The waterproofing won’t stand up to heavy or prolonged weather, as water will slowly seep through the fabric and any stitching. The thickness, lining and tightness of the weave will help slow the seeping process. With exposure to heavy or prolonged periods of rain - you will need to remove canvas regularly and allow to dry out.

The waterproofing agent used on canvas breaks down with exposure and you may need to apply a waterproof coating every 6-12 months to improve the waterproofness of the canvas. Much depends on the weave and fabric composition.

Technology has bought the rug world some fantastic high performing fabrics that stand the test of time if well cared for. Shires know what works and what does not. Offering form and function, but without unnecessary costly decoration or over-done features to ensure everything on a Shires rug is fit for purpose.

100g Suitable for cool nights and days when a heavier weight rug is too warm, or for hardy horses in colder weather. Featuring 600 denier ShireTex waterproof, breathable, ripstop outer, 100g quilted filling, fully lined, adjustable cross surcingles, tail flap, fillet strap, dees for optional leg straps (leg straps sold separately) and a tail flap. ShireTex advanced breathable fabrics are used in all Shires turnout rugs. Tough and durable, these fabrics are coated with a specially formulated hydrophilic coating which is designed to attract excess sweat and moisture. The difference in air temperature between the inside and the outside of the rug then draws this sweat/moisture to the outside of the rug where it dissipates into the atmosphere. Tested under controlled conditions ensures their suitability for horse rugs and blankets. Seams are taped to further ensure rugs are leak proof.

Neck covers explained: The contour style fits ergonomically around the top of the neck to reach just behind the ears without rubbing the chin. * Turnout rugs all avoid a central back seam to keep the rug as waterproof as possible.

*Tempest rugs do not come with leg straps. Whilst this concept is pretty new here in New Zealand, this method has been tried and tested in Europe for a few years now, not only by Shires but other well known top european brands. Fillet straps are often now the preferred choice for many customers because they are much easier to use and can pose less of a danger than leg straps. When using a fillet strap, loop this under the tail and attach, so that it secures the back of the rug to help hold it in place.
