The Modern AFRICAN Woman African prints have slowly taken over the fashion world. They are seen on many runways and carried by many fashion retailers, but very few understand its cultural and traditional values. In Africa, traditional clothing is mostly worn to celebrate very special events such as funerals, weddings and even birthdays. During those events, the prints may vary between generations (some prints are considered too mature for children), and each print holds its special meaning. For example, fabric chosen for a funeral would be considered inappropriate at birthday or a wedding. The meaning of each print is also entirely dependent on the region as every country carries its own interpretation. In this look book, we wanted to take a modern approach to tradition and portray one modern African woman’s interpretation of African fashion. This modern woman believes in taking risks by embracing bold and festive prints and by showing a little bit of skin. She is fierce and fearless.
