Biography-
My name is Taylor Whitley. I’m a 21 year old wedding and portrait photographer based in Victoria, BC. I’m originally from the small town of Qualicum Beach. I’m out here in the big city living my wildest dreams(and capturing them)!
Q. What do you love most about wedding photography? The passion. There’s just so much life and love in weddings and I love capturing how naturally happy everyone is. Q. If you could give a beginner photographer some advice, What would you give them? Don’t assume the most expensive camera would be the best camera for you. It’s totally not true. DSLR’s can be complicated to learn. Pick something out that’s easy to learn the basics on, master that camera, then upgrade when you feel you want to learn more. I recommend the Canon rebel t3i or Nikon D5100(this is the one I learned on). Q. When did you know you wanted to pursue photography professionally? I could make this super long, but it’s pretty simple. I’m stubborn and determined. My high school teacher told me it wasn’t a “realistic career path” so I took that as motivation. Photography has always been an escape for me, I love making art. Even if it’s work, it’s still the most enjoyable thing in the world for me. Q. How many photoshoots/weddings do you have in a month? It depends on the season! In the summer, I’m always booked. I’d say about 5 weddings and 15-20 other photoshoots between May-October. 2018 has been my busiest year so far and it just keeps getting busier. Life’s good! Q. Who inspires you in the industry? For my wedding photography inspiration, I always look to India Earl’s work. She’s incredibly talented with capturing emotion and passion between couples. As for my art side, Ruby James all the way. I have followed her work since I was a young teenager and it still blows me away every time. Q. Explain your favourite shoot you have been apart of! My favourite shoot so far would have to be my most recent one at a gorgeous lavender farm venue in Metchosin. A small group photographer and model friends joined me there and it was amazing! You could smell lavender all around the property. Bilston Creek Farm is run by super friendly and fantastic people. We loved making art there!

Biography-
Creatorsmag.com
I was born in Roundrock, Texas, then moved to Forks, Washington where I spent most of my youth. From there I moved to Vancouver to study psychology at Simon Fraser University. Soon after I was inspired to chase my creative dreams by a fellow dorm member. So I began a photography program at the Art Institute of Vancouver (now Le Salle College). After the school was bought over, I didn’t agree with many of the changes so I left before finishing my program to move to Victoria, BC where I currently reside. I figured it would be easier to start making a name for myself in an area less saturated in photographers. Since my move I have had the pleasure to meet and work with so many amazingly creative and talented people. I am so thankful for the supportive creative family that I have become a part of here in Victoria. Without them I would never have improved near as much as I have, I will always be grateful. Q. When did you start pursuing photography? Photography has always been a family hobby, my grandpa and mom both always took photos. So in high school I worked for the yearbook and took photos at the sporting events. But it wasn’t until about a year and a half ago that I realized it was what I wanted to do with my life so I began a photography program at La Salle College Vancouver. Then last December I launched my business up and went from there. Q. What city would you like to shoot in? I would love to shoot in either New York or Milan, Italy. It’s hard to choose between the two they’d both be amazing! Q. What are your biggest challenges with portrait photography? The biggest challenges would honestly be finding paying clients and all the post production work. I don’t know how to market myself well yet so getting work is a challenge at the moment. Then editing is definitely the hardest part about portraits, it’s hard to know when a photo is “done” so sometimes you spend hours on one image until you think it’s perfect. It can be a very long and tiring process. Oh, and finding good lighting! Overcast is the best so thank goodness that’s our typical weather up here. Q. Where do you see yourself in 3 years with your Photography career? If I have my way, I see myself living in a bigger city and working regularly with modeling agencies. Hopefully by then I will also be getting wedding jobs as well. In three year I hope I am able to travel and work, I would love to be able to go to a city somewhere and find jobs wherever I go. Q. What is the hardest part about your job? So far the hardest thing for me has been knowing how to start. There isn’t a mapped out road to success and not every road there works for everyone so sometimes it’s very confusing where to go next. I’m slowly starting to get the hang of things and figure out what I should be doing though. Other than that I’d say time management is very difficult. Since I work for myself I have to make sure I’m working at least eight hour days, whether it’s editing, shooting, writing or sending emails I try to keep track of it all. It can be hard to make myself sit down in front of my laptop for hours on end during a sunny day, and make sure I’m actually productive during that time.

Creatorsmag.com Q.Where does the name Super Ink come from? I originally had the idea for a clothing line back in 2011. My first clothing line was going to be called FAIM apparel which stood for “Fresh Apparel In Mind” I had just tought myself design and how to create computer graphics. I remember I created this awesome vector file of Wiz Khalifa! A huge inspiration to me back in high school. Shortly after that I had broke my laptop and lost all my designs and all the work on this first line. I had decided to start fresh and do even better than my original idea! I though long and hard for days... Searching for inspiration. One day it just hit me! SUPER INK. I fell in love with the aesthetic of the word and what it stood for! Super being the root word of Superior, Ink being a tool for art, and also something you use to make permanent. You could say we will be Permanently Superior. Q. What is your brands platform? So starting off, ever since I was in high school I have came up with this idea of the Super Ink lifestyle. Growing up I was really influenced by Skateboarding / Hip hop culture. This will always be reflected in our apperance, especially in our design process! We started doing Streetwear back in 2012 back when social media was just starting up. The Super Ink lifestyle is by the people for the people! A community of creativity, we believe in spreading positivity through art! I believe that traveling the globe brings out your creativity. Most of my inspiration has come from trips to new places. The grass is always greener on the other side. I decided to make the Palm trees an iconic staple. It’s something everyone can relate to. And I myself am in love with the aesthetic and life of palm trees. Q. What were some of the biggest struggles starting your business? Starting up is the hard part everyone says. Which is true. You just need to get out there and start projecting your vision! Some of the things I struggled with at the start was sizing / color options. You want to give a variety to your fanbase but you also don’t want to overwhelm yourself before your ready. If you really want to do something you will figure out how to make it work! Q. When did you start up your online store? I have been selling online and in person since 2013. With orders coming from mostly North America. I have sent the odd pack to Europe when requested. Q. Where do you plan on taking superink? I plan on Super Ink going more world wide in the Future. The brand has been well established locally in BC. I think that it is extremely important to push yourself and aim for new heights. The truth is any one can print a shirt. It takes alot to be able to tell a story behind it and establish a lifestyle. The coolest thing about my line is that People see the “Palm Trees” and the associate it with the name Super Ink. Which I always thought was super powerful! Nike has the swoosh. Versace has Medusa and Super Ink has the Palm Trees. All iconic and recognizable. With the way the world is going, things change so fast these days. It’s hard to say where the line will be within the next year even! 47

I’m a graphic designer, photographer, and a maker who simply loves to create. As a creative, I find inspiration through my travels and on-the-ground cultural experiences. From playing and writing music, woodworking/build projects, and explorations of all avenues of design, I find solace in the creative process. My photography reflects the adventure-fuelled lifestyle I strive to sustain. Taking friends and family out for adventures and capturing candid moments that reflect the majesty of our surroundings.

“I was always drawn to photography, but it did not fully root and blossom until I had finished high school. There was a distinct moment when I picked up a camera I was borrowing from a friend, and the flame was ignited, and I knew, this was for me. This was one of my purposes. To authentically capture the beauty of people and the lives that they live. Here I am, 7 years later, a visual storyteller of everyday life. I firmly believe in the importance of preserving, documenting and capturing the beauty and life around us. I think people are absolutely beautiful, and everyone has such special uniqueness that is unlike any other. I thrive in having the opportunity to capture real moments, emotions and interaction- showcasing the natural you. -Shantal Hetlinger.

Creatorsmag.com Q. Where do you get the most inspiration from? It always depends what I wanna photograph. For example with family or couple photography I would always look at local photographers work because I’m really amazed with the style they go with. I actually call it Victoria style. The photographers who were born here I can just feel it from the photos... That’s why they inspire me the most while I shoot around Victoria! On the other hand - my very favourite photography is fashion or portraits. My go to are many European photographers as Anita Sadowska, but also some Americans like Jessika Kobeissi. I think instagram is the biggest inspiration for most of us photographers! Also trying to be creative in your own way is very beneficial for your own style and progression! My personal bonus is that I come from the Czech Republic. I could see the fashion - historical buildings - typical European looking girls and it all inspires by itself! Europe is romantic and fashionable while Canada is very wild and free minded in all ways! Q. How long have you been shooting portraits and what camera do you use? It was in January of this year when I was quite bored of shooting only horses and I saw one amazing event called - YYJ Photographers meet up - which was a perfect situation for me! English is my second language and I always felt shy to speak it in front of people who I don’t know. This event was for everyone - experienced or not. There were around 30 people and all of them went after fun, nothing stressful, no pressure! What better way to start portrait photography? Right now I’m shooting with Canon 5D Mark IV and couldn’t be happier! I upgraded after 4 years and it makes a huge difference in my work! Q. What is your favourite style and location to shoot? I love to let people move while I am photographing, even when I shoot models. The sunset or evening hours are the best time for what I wanna achieve in my photographs. I can stick with any location - it’s actually a great practice to shoot anywhere and fight with the light or environment conditions you’ve got! Only place where I really don’t have imagination is any park. I prefer town or wild nature! Q. Explain your ultimate photoshoot: location, theme and concept! It’s simple, less is sometimes more. The models have to be styled. I’m a big fan of Zara clothes make up has to be light - I always go with more natural look. It is very hard to explain my concept. I never plan ahead. Every model is different - moves differently - and I’m trying to get the best out of their look! My favourite phrase is - I will shoot for quality, not quantity. Q. What makes you so passionate about photography? Photography is an art. I love to be creative. I’m also transforming my vision into photography. Success is a big thing. It’s like a motor of the whole thing. When your photo shoot turns out better than you were hoping it’s pushing you work harder and harder. You want to be better. When I get published in a magazine, it meant a lot to me. I’m a self learner and I also judge myself. That’s how I become successful! Q. How long does it take you to edit one session of shooting? Usually I’m giving out about 10 - 15 photos - 3 of the photos are very detail edited, which takes about 1 hour each. Approximately 5 hours of work. 63

BiographyI first picked up a camera less than two years ago and fell in love with photography as both an art medium and method to capture fleeting moments. I primarily shoot digital but use and collect film cameras, including vintage polaroids that I use for snapshot photography.
Q. Where do you come up with your creative ideas? In photography I find my creative ideas often from little details in my daily life, or from symbolism in literature. Q. If you could offer any creative 3 pieces of advice what would it be? ALWAYS carry a notebook to collect all your creative ideas. Even if you just jot things down on separate sheets and slip it in later, having a cumulative collection of your ideas is invaluable. Try new art mediums, and try them more than once. You’ll be surprised with how much you’ll learn and how the skills transfer and grow your creativity as a whole. Don’t allow your ego to stop you from creating. Artistic skill comes from dedicated practice, not inherent ability. Worrying about your level of talent or mastery only halts progress. Q. Where do you want to take your photography career? My goal is to produce meaningful work, with a focus on purposeful conceptual projects. Currently, I am working on a surrealism photography book that focuses on creating a visual language for emotions. Q. What are your biggest strengths and weaknesses when it comes to photography? I would consider my best strength to be my concept creation in surrealism work, and my greatest weakness to be spontaneous shooting. Ideally I’d like to shoot more often and deepen my analog photography knowledge. Q. What style of location makes you the happiest when you shoot? I have always preferred shooting outdoors with natural light, in locations that have diverse landscapes. Q. How do you like to edit your photos? Do you have a preset? I edit my photos dependent on purpose, playing with tones and colour with fashion and fine art while adventure photography I like to keep more natural. I create a collection of presets for each photoshoot, sometimes altering past presets. Model: Mika Deneige 71
