It’s Payback Time. The CR Series proves that extremely efficient, high quality lighting doesn’t have to come at a premium. With savings upfront and in operation, upgrading to the CR Series instead of comparable fluorescent options delivers an estimated payback of less than one year in a typical office installation.
Figure 2: Accumulated Upgrade Savings* CR24 Troffer** over Architectural 2x4 Fluorescents TM
Equally impressive, the CR24 troffer is actually more affordable than many other comparable architectural fluorescent fixtures currently on the market, giving you an immediate payback over those options when you choose to upgrade.

Accumulated Upgrade Savings
For example, Figure 2 illustrates how upgrading to just one CR24™ troffer instead of comparable fluorescent options pays for the difference in six months. The CR24 troffer also delivers over $170 more in lifetime energy and maintenance savings— making the fixture virtually free when you choose to upgrade.

Where Form Follows Function. The room-side heat sink creates a sleek architectural look while also delivering a breakthrough in thermal management. Its unconventional design shows what can be achieved when form follows function, as it enables the CR Series to outperform the industry in efficacy, lifetime, and light quality.
Upward-Facing Linear LED Array Utilizing Cree TrueWhiteÂŽ Technology, the LEDs direct high CRI light upward to reflect off the mixing chamber, delivering soft indirect light without pixilation.
Standard-Setting Performance Because the heat sink is integrated into the diffusing lens, the CR Series can use the moderate interior climate to maximize cooling effectiveness so the LEDs consistently run cooler, dramatically improving their performance. This design gives the CR Series: 90-110 LPW Efficacy Minimum 50,000 hour standard lifetime Over 75,000 hour lifetime in 110 LPW options Unrivaled fixture-to-fixture color consistency
Soft, Brilliant Light
10
The room-side heat sink also delivers the benefit of recessed indirect lighting with an upward-facing, high CRI linear LED array integrated with a highly reflective mixing chamber and diffusing lens. This design ensures uniform lens luminance without pixilation and an optimal light distribution that softly washes walls while effectively illuminating horizontal work surfaces.
Cool Air Circulation
Architectural Aesthetics
Cool interior air constantly circulates
Clean lines and a contemporary finish create a sophisticated look that’s anything but ordinary. Its architectural styling is complimented by bright, beautiful light to reveal the true colors in your space while keeping the ceiling quiet.
around the heat sink to effectively draw heat away from the LEDs, optimizing their performance and lifetime.
Unpredictable Plenum Space Air collected above the ceiling plane has a wider temperature range than in the interior space below, making effective thermal management a challenge.
ROOM-SIDE HEAT SINK
Optimized Heat Dissipation While heat dissipation is optimized by the cool air circulation, the heat released into the room is still a mere fraction of what’s released by a 75W incandescent.

Leave Convention Behind
CRI Using CR Series Troffer
Color Rendering Does Matter. 90
Make no mistake, the color quality of the CR Series is light years ahead of fluorescent technology.
CRI
Cree TrueWhite® Technology is the driving force behind this advantage because it delivers a broader and more continuous Spectral Power Distribution (SPD), which renders colors more accurately and beautifully. The SPD curves shown here provide a visual profile with which to compare the CR Series’ color characteristics to that of fluorescents. Each curve shows the radiant power emitted by the light source at each wavelength over the rainbow of colors we call the visible spectrum. Where the radiant power is weak, those color wavelengths are barely present in the light source and therefore are barely present in what we actually see, making those colors appear washed out under the light source. Fuller, more continuous SPD curves, like that of the CR Series, produce less color distortion than SPD curves that are mostly flat and spiky, like that of fluorescents. This is what gives the CR Series 90 CRI with the ability to beautifully render the rich colors of everything from fresh fruit to school books.
16 14 RADIANT POWER
High CRI can also increase perceived brightness which lowers lumen requirements– directly translating to energy savings for you.

Leave Convention Behind
Lifetimes are not Created Equal. With vastly different rating systems, evaluating the practical lifetime of the CR Series vs. conventional fluorescent technology requires separating fact from hype. The figures below illustrate what these different ratings mean in terms of actual cost and performance to help you make a fair comparison.
FLUORESCENT LIFETIMES
Figure 3
Many companies group relamp at 60% of rated life to address this issue, giving the fixtures in Figure 3 a much lower practical lifetime of 24,000 hours. As for the CR Series— have no doubt, when it comes to practical lifetime, we set the standard.

80%
Lamp Failure Rate
What this means is, on average, for lamps rated at 40,000 hours lifetime, this will result in approximately 50% of those lamps failing by the time of 40,000 hours. As a result, light distribution will become spotty and ineffective requiring the customer to institute a relamp and maintenance program.
Rated Lifetime

Figure 3 shows the typical industry-accepted lifetime curve for fluorescents, which is based not on lumen maintenance (as with LEDs), but on mean lamp failure rate.

Figure 4
Rated Lifetime
As illustrated in Figure 4, the industry standard LED lifetime rating is defined by the time at which delivered lumens depreciate to 70% of the initial level. Rating a roomful of CR Series troffers in this way ensures that each fixture is measured against the most important aspect of their effectiveness, the total light level in the room.
Fortunately, our advanced thermal design is specifically engineered to tackle this with outstanding results. While every CR Series troffer is designed for a minimum lifetime of 50,00020,000 hours, our 11040,000 LPW high efficacy 60,000 fixtures are designed for even longer— at least 75,000Operating hours, which is 17 years in a Hours typical commercial application. Say goodbye to relamping and maintenance, saving you both time and money.
