YUENING PU Growing up along the rivers and lakes of the Yangtze River delta, I am particularly interested in creating well designed spaces for people to explore, celebrate nature, and rediscover the historic and cultural importance along waterfront areas. My design passion is to help connect meaningful balance between development, the local population, and natural environment.

Exhibition area - ripple paving
Cloud forest concept The exhibition center will introduce the grand development to the guests as the future of Wuhan, while the landscape design will remind guests of the natural history of the city. Life in Wuhan is born from rivers and sustained by water. The source of rivers and life begins with one drop of rain. Thus, the raindrop shaped tree pot is
created to represent the water. Ripple and splash as the transformation of water drop are becoming paving and seating elements on the ground.
Design development in progress To deal with the grading change between the entry and main plaza, a cascading water feature is designed at the northeast corner. Several steps with black annealed steel band at the southeast corner echo with the cascading water feature and leading visitors into the cloud forest. Worked with structural engineers from RFR, the
supporting column system is more elegant by reducing the column size and making the suspension cable as invisible as possible.

UPGRADE YOUR CONNECTION San Francisco, California
DESCRIPTION
CONCEPT
Internet Technology influences people’s daily lives. Somehow, we have lost face to face connection. Phubbing, Twittersphere, cloud socializing occurs in our life. Relying on the Internet too much has become a modern social issue. In late 1990s, due to flexible office space at initially low rent, South Park area was sometimes described as ‘ground zero’ of the dot com revolution. It is a great place both for history of San Francisco and for the new technologies. The design focuses on how to attract people to gather again in real life by designing with interesting new tech integrated with landscape and creating a flexible space for people’s daily use.

A POETIC URBAN BALANCE Huzhou, China
DESCRIPTION In Tang Dynasty, poet Zhihe Zhang visited Huzhou and he wrote -- “Egrets fly in front of Mount Xishai, peach blossoms fall and many mandarin fish swim. The poet is fishing and wears a straw cape and hat. He enjoyed the breeze and tiny rains so much that ha forgot go home.” It is a wonderful poem that describes the weather, people, activity, wildlife and the natural environment of the past. Thinking about people’s urban life now, it is difficult to feel the same wonderful mood as the poet did. This park design proposal is trying to create the same poetic feelings and experiences of the natural environment for the local people. Some of the elements mentioned in the poem transfer to the basic principles of the park’s design: ecology, activity and poetic living.
