USEFUL INFORMATION FOR BUYING A DEFIBRILLATOR
WHAT IS A DEFIBRILLATOR?
Defibrillators are used when a person is in cardiac arrest. They deliver an energy shock to the heart (defibrillation).
Defibrillators are known by several names, including:
• AED
• Automated External Defibrillator
• Defib
• Defibrillator
• Public Access Defibrillator (PADs)
HOW TO USE A DEFIBRILLATOR
Defibrillators should be easily accessible in all settings. In an instance where one is locked in a cabinet, instructions on how to get in will be provided. Visual and audible instructions are also provided to enable the person to deliver CPR with the defibrillator. Defibrillation within the first three minutes of cardiac arrest can increase chances of survival by up to 70%, reducing at approximately 10% per minute after this.
TYPES OF DEFIBRILLATOR
There are two types of defibrillator; Semi-Automatic and Fully Automatic. Semi-automatic defibs require the rescuer to press a button to deliver a shock, whereas fully automatic defibrillators deliver them automatically.
MAINTENANCE
• Check the defibrillator regularly and ensure they are accessible
• Ensure there are no fault warnings on the defib
• Ensure all pads are within their expected life
• Ensure batteries have sufficient charge
SMARTY SAVER SEMI AUTOMATIC
LIGHTWEIGHT
INSTANT
The basic model of the Smarty Saver Series line is very affordable and easy to use. Reliable and durable {l meter drop test - dustproof and waterproof resistance IP rate 56). It can be easily operated by anyone in the medical field (e.g. ambulance, emergency room, etc.) and non-medical field too (e.g. public or private places).
The Semi-Automatic model analyses the patient’s ECG and if a shockable rhythm is detected it automatically starts charging the reservoir capacitor. The AED vocal message will suggest the operator presses the shock button to deliver the de-fibrillating shock.

If CPR is required, ensure the emergency services are called with 999 or 112, and send for the AED.
In CPR, do 30 chest compressions, followed by 2 rescue breaths. Do this at a rate of 100 to 120 compressions per minute.
When the AED is available and needed, turn on the device, remove clothing, and attach pads. Ensure nobody is touching the casualty, as this can interfere with the AED. FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS GIVEN BY THE DEFIBRILLATOR
